QuoteIf that's really all you are after then why drill holes in your hood?  You could just make a set of hood pins into "dummys" glued to the hood skin on top.

That is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard of....   ::) :slap:
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Hey, if that's all he is after  . .

The car's next owner may appreciate the lack of holes drilled.

No one is going to steal his Hemi, with that much tape.

No photos but I did have a Citation once in which the bracing came loose from the hood panel and sent it flying open.  It creased the hood so in order to hold it closed I drilled a couple of holes near the front and used wire through the holes and grille.  We laughingly called them Lada hood pins. :shruggy:
Its about the same level as tape.

My opinion on the hood pins has changed as I have over time.

My first new car was a 69 orange super bee. 383 4sp, hood scoops and hood pins.  I didn't order the car so it wasn't something checked off on an option sheet.
I was 19 and liked the added glitz of the hood pins and was well aware that they were just that---glitz--

It's a matter of taste but today I would not add them to a car that didn't come with them. I like the factory original side of the hobby.

Back in the day for some the hood pin idea became a security addition and pad locks were used to help prevent pilfering of shiny things under the hood.

That must have been the case for my 69 hemi coronet.  There were two holes in the hood for pins (in the wrong place) and evidence of where the pins were located.  :eek2: It took a lot of patient effort to repair the holes in the hood.

Along a similar line while collecting parts over the years for my coronet I got some top fender mounted turn signal lights from a donor 69 rt but decided not to add them to my car because I didn't want to upset the balance of original mopar nature.  Even in those days (early eighties) original cars were the tops and hard to find. :Twocents:

I hear you, but this will definatly be a work of a lifetime to bring this car back so I dont even want to think about selling it. However, IF I ever sell the car then the holes in the hood are the buyers problem.
I made up my mind, I will add a set of functional hood pins.
Keeping or removing the factory latch is something I need to look closer at when I'm at that point of the resto.

I appreciate the gasket tip as rust prvention  :2thumbs:

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Ghoste

I can't see the holes being a dealbreaker for 98% of the people out there if you ever did have to sell it anyway.  (and I'd leave the factory latch on there too)

Dino

Right, it would be a tiny amount of hassle to have holes in the hood, but not a deal breaker no.  Not at all.
