Yes - This is pure fact that cannot be argued. Any 68-69 RR's that have 440-4BBL engines in them were put in there after the cars left the plant.

If I had to guess I would say that is from 1967 not 1969. Still does. Of note a 440 being available in a Roadrunner. If you ever see a 1970 RR that is a 440 4bbl car let me know as I will buy it and put the wing and nose back on it.

Now that we have cleared that up....I am pretty sure you couldn't get 4:10's and a Superbird. So basically to get back on topic why would you order a Daytona with 4:10's

I agree I think I would stick to 3:55's or if I was lucky enough 3:54's and a 4-speed

Dave I am not sure if you could get a 4.10 in a Bird, but I have never seen one. Daytona and 500 on the other hand there are more than a few. Fun to drive in town, no fun on highway.

Bird was 3.54 Dana with 4 spd,3.55 83/4 auto,nothing else.

I think another reason someone would want a 4.10 in a wing car was just for the simple fact that it was cool, and it could have been a selling point.  Yeah, the body was technically designed for the big circle tracks... but if someone was buying the car just for the image of being a "race car", then chances are, if they raced it... it would have been at a drag strip or on the street.  Which would make the 4.10 very popular.  Hey, Dick Landy drove a Daytona and Sox & Martin drove a Superbird.

Disco-Tona is a 4.10 auto. The others are a 3.54 stick and a 3.55 auto.
I agree that a 4.10 gets old on the highway....but it is a cool option.

Were any Daytonas or Charger 500s customer/dealer ordered, or were they all speced out by some guy behind a desk in Detroit?

Since the Super Performance Axle Package (4:10 Dana behind a Torqueflight) was basically a drag racing option, possibly equipping aero car with it was seen as just another way for drag racers to get a lower quarter mile ET?.

the majority of wing cars, like every other car, were spec'd out by the home office.  some were special ordered, and all Daytonas are coded for it anyway.  'birds were coded for sales bank for the most part, but there are ordered cars.

they got bored and roundly duplicated cars in batches, too.  our petty 'bird has a near identical twin one VIN down...we got exhaust tips and they got a 6 pack.  There's a pack of green 'birds with sequential VINs that are also pretty much identical.
