Is there a way to convert Quicktime movies to the Windows Media Player format?

My video camera saves all its movies in the Quicktime format and apparently Quicktime and Windows Media Player are like oil and water. Unfortunately my video editing software (Windows Movie Maker and Media Player) will not recognize this format. Is there any way to make the Quicktime movies obey me?

bull,

There has to be a setting on the software you use to capture the video onto the hard drive of your computer. The setting should allow you to change the type of file the video is imported to.

Go with a .avi file - it is the largest quality but it is mostly uncompressed so you won't lose anything during the capture. After you are editing, then you can export to a windows media (.wmv) or .mpg for downloading/uploading on the internet.

If your camera (and the software you installed to support it) captures video in Quicktime format - then it is a setting that tells it to. It shouldn't be the only option for getting video onto the computer.

Also, are you using a fire wire or USB cable to get the video into your computer? If so, try capturing the video off your camera by using Windows Movie Maker (click the "Capture from Video device"). That software should automatically recognize your Video Camera, and pull the video in from there. Therefore you can sidestep the Quicktime crappolla and get on to editing.

   Hope some of this helps.

The 2nd option sounds easiest from this point on, unfortunately I've already shot a bunch of movies in the default setting of Quicktime so I'll have to try your first idea on those. The good news is that the content of those I've already shot is pretty boring because I didn't know what I was doing yet (like I do now).
