I remember reading somewhere that the steering columns for manual steering cars are different than those with power steering.  Is there any truth to this??  If so, what is the difference?  I am assuming it's the length.  I just want to know for when I put my 69 back together so I have the right column in it.  I also have 2 power steering pumps, each with a different pulley on it.  One looks like a wagon wheel with 3 spokes, the other has a solid pulley.  Which one is correct for use on a 440?  Thanks.

Yes the lengths are different for manual & power steering columns.....the manual column shaft is longer and harder to find.  You can buy a conversion coupler to comvert a P/S to a manual type.

As for the P/S pullies the wagon wheel type would be correct for a 69 440 (Saganaw pump) the soild (federal pump) is for 68 & older cars...

That would make sense why the column that was in my 69 did not slip all the way on to the manual box that was in it.  Now that I think about it, I seem to recall the guy I bought it from saying that he changed it from power steering to manual steering.  That's 1 less part I need to try and find  :yesnod:

another difference is the coupler to box itself... box stud is bigger on manual boxes, so coupler hole is of course also big.
