Last week, I had my Napa replacement voltage regulator , short out to ground, causing some unexpected wiring repairs. What would the most recommended single field 1967 , voltage regulator, be. And who would make the best, Mopar????? I would rather pay more for good quality, than have a potential fire hazard.

......Fused out J2 under the dash, also separated it from the middle of the harness.......

and install an inline fuse between the ignition wire and regulator terminal

Bob;

That was the model that fried on me. It had to be at least five years old, opened it up for inspection, did not find anything burnt up or smelling like the smoke got out.....just shorted to the casing. I wanted something a little more durable and made with a better quality standard, Like that is possible...... anyways, picked up a replacement yesterday from Car Quest, installed, and everything is back to normal........

See you in a couple of weeks..

Bryan;

J 2 is the blue lead with white tracer, I installed an inline `fuse' under the dash as per your advise. At this time ,I have installed a 10 amp fuse, is 10 amps too light maybe :scratchchin:

my electronic regulator did the same thing, fried that blue/white wire all the way to the ignition switch. Turns out it shorted where the spade terminal is behind the regulator to the body....piece of cardboard back there for insulation. I put a 7.5a inline fuse at the regulator, just used spade terminals to plug between the harness & regulator. Been a few years now with no issues....I still went with electronic regulator, not sure from who though

Bryan, do you mean the terminal(s) that are on the side or the back that sits against the firewall?

The spade terminal that comes out the side is actually riveted to the back of the regulator...the cardboard between the 2 pieces I guess wore out. Second picture shows my in-line fuse connected

Interesting.
Mine is exactly the same as in the picture on the site, so it is a bit different. But I don't recall the back. I don't remember it being like that however.
Cap (black part) slides over the base as I recall and I THOUGHT everything came out from the inside.
I'll have to look.
