Paint Bubbling/Blistering Rust?

Hey guys, I purchased a brand new 2014 Dodge Charger 100th Anniversary this past Friday. I love the car but* Monday I noticed when you raise the trunk, by the sides what looks like paint bubbling/blistering. Showed it to co workers and they said it could be rust. This is a brand new car and it is now 5 days since I've had it and already paint issues? Did not notice this when I bought the car obviously. What do you guys think? I took it to the dealer, they took pictures of it and said once Chrysler approves it they will most likely sand it down and re paint. It's in three areas around that trunk area on the sides. I am bothered that I have to deal with this on a brand new car.

Welcome to the forum   It could be rust, but I'm thinking it could also be seam sealer or some other adhesive that Chrysler uses in the construction of the vehicles.

Also, I wouldn't toss your keys in the trunk while the trunk is open.  It's too easy to lock them in.  I've seen it happen more than once.

I'm sure Chrysler will do right to fix their little errors.  In the meantime, would you mind posting some of the details that make the 100 anniversary special?  I've read they've put in some distinctive badging. :popcrn:

Yea I'm thinking it's also seam sealer but I wanted a second opinion. Thanks for your concern about the keys but it's based on proximity so no way I can lock keys in the car if the keys are in the car or trunk. Yea I hope they refinish it and fix it. No need for this type of imperfection on a brand new car even though it could be minor. The 100th anniversary is bad ass. Here are pictures of the car and specs on the 100th.

Very nice.  How's the 8 spd. automatic?  I've read a lot of positives, just haven't drove one yet. :popcrn:

It's incredible, very smooth and fast when I need it.

This kind of stuff is fairly common on newer vehicles unfortunately . It's most likely some resin or similar from a two part sealer or foam that bubbled up when they baked the finish. Be careful about having it fixed. You will be fine if it's a good shop that you trust, but if the wrong guy gets ahold of it you will have a brand new car with a mess.

Yes, I would learn to live with it - I know its hard to do sometimes, but the end result could be worse, or even more noticeable such as tape lines, overspray, etc.

That's a great car by the way!  I love the color.  :2thumbs:   Enjoy it!   :drive:

Yes, I agree with this. You should see the stuff I see on new cars, you would not believe what they go through. I get to paint brand new rejects from Chrysler & GM, ect. LEON.

Thanks guys I feel a lot better and your probably right. Better if the dealer keeps their hands off.

That's acceptable these days?
I would live with it, but the buyer has every right to take it back for warranty work...

Was not my final decision, still waiting on dealer but with the shitty job people do these days I have considered living with it. Id monitor it and if it becomes worse than I'll persue warranty but I'm still waiting to see what the dealer will come back with. I will post what they tell me. But I'm still open to listen to others advice.

No man, I'm talking about if I agree to have the dealer refinish it they will have to sand blast it and paint it and not sure if I want that type of work done on a new car.

There are people who could make this right. Just be very careful not tolet someone screw it up. I do body and resto work and I have seen some hurry up people hack up some cars.

I do not think it is rust, If not rust, after 5 years of watching it & monitoring to get bigger & spread you'll see nothing has happened if not rust. I don't think any monotoring is necessary? LEON.

I wouldn't let the dealership body shop hacks touch my car over that.  :Twocents: :Twocents:

Not rust. Appears to be dried adhesive, seam sealer, etc used in manufacturing that was painted over.
Doesn't look like anything to be overly worried about, with the exception of the appearance of it.
Having a shop take care of it might open up another can of worms: masking edges, overspray, different gloss/color difference inside the jambs, etc.

This stuff is unfortunately common these days just like it always was.  When was factory paintwork ever nicer than now?

:Twocents:

Perfect paint in all the nooks & crannies is for hand-built show cars.  A production car's finish just needs to look nice on the outside and be as durable as possible.  As long as a blob is not related to rust (which is a totally valid concern) then it's nothing to get worked up about IMO.

Indygenerallee

Thats not rust... I would not have it "fixed" the "fix" could make it worse, the best finish you have on your car is the factory baked on finish, I have seen many old Mopars with factory paint flaws that were still untouched after 35 years and not rusting on the "flaw"
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.
