68 Charger R/T shifter lever question

   Hi Guys,

   I am looking to replace the hurst shifter lever on my 68.  It has the shift lever that comes up from the shift linkage assembly in the console, then bends over towards the drivers seat, then turns back up and slants back. It constantly hits me in the leg.  I need one that does not extend over towards my leg so far.
Have others had this problem and what have you done?   Also will all the shapes of the hurst shifters fit/bolt into the linkage assemble?

ive heard of guys actually taking the lever out, heating it up and bending it back a little, then just have it re-chromed or whatever finish you want

now I will say this...these were my jeep buddies, we do weird stuff to jeeps, you may /may not want to try it...but it works!

I think all the Hurst shift handles can interchange.  (all the ones I can think of anyway)

You probably don't want to do that to an original B body Hurst console shifter - it's worth more than some Jeeps!

I'm not quite sure I understand though. A console shifter handle should come up from the shifter then immediately have a 90 degree turn towards the passenger side. It goes over maybe 3-4" then straight up for a bit then angles towards the back and the driver. It should look like this:

Having one, I know that the shift lever is next to your left leg, but unless your Sasquatch, it shouldn't be rubbing your on you leg.

I had a factory console 4speed car and have driven non-console 4-on-the-floor cars...... The console shifter was MUCH better I though......

  Yea, I do not want to do anything to the original shifter and will keep it so if I ever sell it, the new owner will get all the factory items.

  I am an average sized guy but it still hits my right leg.  I will check out what hurst shifter handles I can use.  Thanks for your help.
