I have never been and probably never will. Those pictures are pretty but the one below is more like what I envision. Those little ladies are selling the cute little puppies on the street. No they aren't pets. They are for EATING!! Yum yum...Are you still hungry? :D

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
      a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're

Who visited  there recently? Well how recent are you talking? My dad just got back from Chiang Mai Thailand a week and a half ago. I grew up in Thailand. Lived there from 1989 to 1996. My parents remained there until 2004. Now they spend 6 months here in the states, and 3 months in Thailand and 3 months of the year at other countries they do mission work in.

Truth be told about the selling dogs for meat, it is true. However 90% of the people who would eat dog, woudln't be eating the puppies that lady is selling. Thai's prefer brown fur on puppies if they intending to eat them. Its a wives tale in Thailand that dogs with brown fur have tender meat.

The picture that is posted of the girls selling dogs, appear more then likely to be Cambodian or Laotians than Thai's. Looks to be taken near a refugee camp in the North East of Thailand, in an area called Esan.

The island posted in the first picture is an incredible site. The beaches in Thailand around Phuket are incredible. Many tourist go to Pataya due to the large amount of strip clubs and the such, but the beahes there are dirty and not very appealing. The ones around Phuket are the best in my opinion.

thanks 69_500 for your imput.

6 years ago I planned a trip, but 3 weeks before departure I canceled and bought a dog. Now my dog died last Okctober and the idea came back up to visit the Islands around Thailand.

Strips clubs, you say? Naah not for me ;) I go for the beaches (no not the bitches) and the sun...

Ah Phuket! It costs too much and it's too far away. Actually $900 wouldn't be too bad if you can really make the most of your trip. If you can hit some of the highlights and still hae time to relax it would probably be worth it.

I was in Thailand for almost 3 weeks at the beginning of the year.  I would recommend it to anyone.  Heck, I can't wait to go back myself.  The place is beautiful and theres tons to do and see.  If you're worried about the price of the plane ticket, consider this.  The US dollar is so strong compared to the Thai baht, that you will easily offset the price of the plane ticket once you get there.  It cost me about $1750 for everything, and that includes the plane ticket.  There's no way you could even go to a major domestic city for 3 weeks for that price without really scrimping on hotels, etc.

Really, I could gone on forever about the place.  If you have questions, PM me.

I visited Phuket back in 1995 and it was awesome.  I will most likely be back there again this summer although I dont know which cities we will be stopping at.   I liked thailand much more than the phillipines thats for sure.  Phuket is beautiful just like the pictures show.  there is even a club med there if that tells you anything.  and the exchange rate is incredible.  I stayed in a 4 star hotel and it cost me a whopping 24 bucks a night.  and if you like seafood....wow is all I can say.
