Corey: Are you in the PNW, and if so where? Did someone mention Des Moines WA? If so perhaps we can give the car look over with you and see what it takes to get it up and going.

PS - I am a flipper so, you probably can't trust me in particular, buit some non-flipper here might be trustworthy  :'(

No way that motor makes 762 HP.

Read more closely Nut, the engine BEFORE that 440 made 762hp. That 440 was to replace the race motor that used to be in the car  :slap:

Hello everyone, saying hi from Iowa. I registered a while back and haven't posted much. Simply reading posts and lurking for the most part.

Lots of owners on here have learned lessons buying sight unseen. What's done is done. You have a rare car. Take your time, spend wisely. Take it from me, you don't have be particularly mechanically inclined. There are still parts around. As mentioned the first purchase should be as set of service manuals. From there you will experience many a day of frustration with just as many of elation. The good news is that this site is full of brothers and sisters willing to help you along the way so welcome and enjoy the ride.

Drache, I did mean the previous 440. I can't believe a 440 made 762 HP.  That's a hell of a big number to prove. :Twocents:

I thought it was the original 400 that was supposedly at 762hp. I don't see that happening either.  :shruggy:

I understood him to be talking about the original 400 motor. He was excited and talking fast, telling me all the things he had done to the motor/trans/suspension so he could drage race the car. And I was trying to take notes just as fast so maybe I wrote it down wrong or heard him wrong or it was just an old man reminiscing about the glory days and the HP edges higher each time he tells the story. Kinda how fish get bigger each time a story is told lol. I'll try and clarify with him next time we talk.

I will add, he's been very excited after hearing about the car after all these years and what my plans are with it. It's been neat in that regards.

Maybe maybe the original owner still has some old photos or leftover parts laying around, keep in touch with him.

Thought I would give an update in case anyone was interested. I was able to get the seller to refund part of the purchase price. It took a while.  :eek2:

The car is up at the shop to have the engine and dash areas re-wired. New brake lines, and a B&M shifter installed (NIB came with the car). There was also a center console in the car, but not sure where to find a more OEM or OEM like shifter to fit that as the B&M of course doesn't. Not sure what my seller was going to do...maybe try and make the two work, but probably would have required the console being cut/chopped up here or there. I certainly don't want that to happen, so for now, I'll hold on to it and have them install the B&M and revisit it later.

Will hopefully have it back home sometime mid to late July.

Do you plan to convert back to the 4 speed?

Yes, I would absolutely love to do that. I don't suspect those transmissions are easy to find however. (or cheap) It will be something I look at a little down the road. Any idea what I should expect a process like that would cost ballpark wise?

Here is one example.

Yours, I would have to think, would be a little easier since it formally was a 4 speed so the clutch pedal is there?

I cannot be 100% sure on a '69 going to '73, but there is one on moparts...
