I am having a 440 built for my '69 that was not a HP motor. I am not making an R/T clone but do want the engine compartment to look mostly stock. What color were the 440 blocks in an early (August '68 build date) car painted? I have heard all kinds of answers with the most common being that the all HP engines were painted orange in '69. I am not a big fan of the turquoise paint. Thanks for any info...

Paint it black. Every mopar pops the hood and its either turquoise or orange.
I recently swapped heads on mine and painted them black, black magnum valve covers, black magnum air cleaner and aluminum intake = sweet!
But I'm not a numbers guy.

I have a 68 R/T Charger.  It was originally Turquoise and the upgrade is also Turquoise.  The VHT paint was a perfect match when sprayed on a spot on the original valve covers.
