Silver trim around gauges / faceplate

I am curious what the correct color is for the silver/gray around the gauges and that borders the dash faceplates in our cars (69 charger) - I have the "woodgrain" face, but of course the silver accent stripe is above it and around the gauges. What also is the best way to do a nice clean job when redoing this? Thanks!

Thanks Bill, and hope you are doing great! I will have to look at it closer evidently - I pulled the cluster and sent it to redline, and at a glance it looked like the plastic was painted arond the edges (which could have been a hack job from previous owner also)- I am getting older and my eyes are worse though!

Hope your doing great as well!

Finding them painted over silver is common. It could be re-done that way with some chrome paint or a silver model paint pen if you're on a budget.
If you have a little more patience & are good with an X-Acto knife you could also give some Bare-Metal Foil a whirl. A little more realistic looking than silver paint.

The woodgrain is on a metal overlay that has little tabs on the back that fold over to keep them in place on the plastic trim bezels. You can get the kit repro, which is quite expensive.

I recently had '68 dash bezels rechromed by this company:

They did a superb job, & were very reasonable. Less than it would cost for a new set of repros. Since the backings on the woodgrain are mainly just chrome (the gauge openings are painted black), it might be cost wise to have yours redone if it fits your budget.  :2thumbs:

Thanks again as always Bill - As you can tell, I am still new to the Mopar world, just want to do this right! I actually already did purchase the new overlays from BEA for this (which after test fit seemed to be a great product by the way) - I will probably go ahead with the re-chroming with who you mentioned. Thanks for your help - the guys like you are what make this a great community of car guys
