I am very pleased to announce the return of Canada's most famous Mopar drag racer, John Petrie!
After being out of the public eye for over forty years, he will be making his first public appearance since retiring from the sport in 1972.
The venue will be Rob Potter's Drag Racers reunion, being held at the Hamilton Ontario War Plane museum on April 13th 2014.
I'm going to be there you can bet!
In addition, racer Mark Roelofs has recently completed the restoration of Petrie's winning 1970 Hemi Challenger SS/DA racecar, and it will be shown for the first time at the event!
:yesnod:
To further the great news,  former Petrie team members Gary and Danny McLennan have reunited with John and produced this excellent website to start the ball rolling! Take a look!

He was Canada's version of Sox and Landy...rolled into one! Petrie carried the Supercar Clinic banner for both Dodge and Plymouth throughout the Supercar years. He was also the very first Canadian to race a 426 Hemi in competition, the first to turn 10, 9, 8 and 7 seconds in the quarter mile.
He also was the first Chrysler sponsored driver to actively campaign a Pro Stock car, and in 1970 was second only to Sox in point standings in the Eastern division. In fact, if his points were in the Western division, he would have been #1 there!
After racing full time for 10 years, he hung up his helmet for good in early 1973, when factory sponsorship dried up and the rules changed to unfavor Hemi engines!

That's cool, I wonder if anything other than that 1970 Hemi Challenger are still around.

Yes. The Hemi Superbee is hiding in a garage somewhere in Ontario. The Hemi Demon is in Quebec. The Hemi GTX convertible was rolled at a race track by a subsequent owner and partially burned. It was supposedly left for dead, but there's a strong rumor that it's been recovered and it being restored in the 'States.
