Installed new leaf springs but I'm having trouble with a gap between the axel and leaf springs. I've tightened down the bolts that attach the leaf springs to the axel but the gap doesn't seem to be closing, any suggestions?

Hard to see in photo, ok different to 2 gen's it has a top and bottom plate over springs , it has a bolt to hold springs  together, it should fit in the hole in the saddle, that's the part attached to diff, that's the only thing stopping springs sitting against diff saddle, has that bolt been put in up side down and the head of bolt not fitting in ?

Is the locating pin head on the spring pack and the hole in the axle mounting pad compatible? Iso-clamp systems like yours tend to have larger pins than what will fit in most axle pads.

wrong leaf springs?  Leaf spring too long?  IM sure you got the pin hole matched up and what not.

I guess I should ask for a better picture or more clarification of what gap your trying to close. The contrast on the picture is a bit dark. If you could mark the picture up with paint or photoshop to show us what gap you are trying to close, that may help.

If your car is a 71, that setup looks like it is from the 73-74 model year with the rubber isolated stuff. You'd be better off ditching it for a 71-72 style.

^^

get rid of the crappy iso mount setup. get new lower plates and make it like the early cars

I think this will ilustrate what is happening:

your axle is mostly sure the left one, and the isolated clamps meets with a very diff setup from 73 and lates.

The hole provision on axle pedestal for the centering is TOTALLY diff. ( note the X measurement )

wondering why you mounted an isolated setup on a 71 ?
