If they were all stock, it would be an awfully boring hobby.

Truer words have never been spoken... Although custom hotrods and, 6 digit show cars are 2 different things  :coolgleamA:

That is true, but nobody has ever hated ALL STOCK!

Screw with the basic lines of the 2nd-gen  =  FAIL

After 46 years of this you'd think people would start to wise up.

Amazing level of skill and work put in on ruining another 2nd gen.

Yup. Let's get our pitchforks and torches and hunt down those bastards from Creative Industries. They ruined a 1000 Chargers!  :flame:

And they were all R/T's !!   :RantExplode:

The C500s and Daytonas didn't improve the looks either.

The C500 was a relatively moderate change and it still didn't look better.  The Daytona would be getting chased out of town if some import tuner had built the first one today.  I like those cars for what they were but they did not look better.  They just ran better.

I'm not against customizing old Mopars.  Not even against changing stuff on 2nd-gens.  But the basic lines of the 2nd-gen have never been improved on ONCE in all these decades of customizing them.  It's not a '32 Ford or a '49 Mercury where anyone can mess with it and potentially improve it.

If I'm wrong, then show me one counter example.  Just one, that's all I ask.  It's been 46 years.

Can't say really that all those chopped Merc's is an "improvement" on the original design. Some of them are actually pretty bad. It's just an alteration, or a "custom".
That's the whole point of these cars. I don't think anyone sets out to IMPROVE the original design, but to customize it in a way possibly to their liking. It's all about perception. Apparently the owner of the Charger liked molded in skulls in that other thread. Others think 01's and confederate flags turn Chargers into clown cars. Some owners of stock Merc's probably hate chopped ones.

Personally, I've already stated I'm not a big fan of drastic changes: shaved drip rails, handles, molded in skulls, fender flares, etc. The wide body thing doesn't really bother me as much because it's so subtle it almost goes unnoticed.

My first thought was to display a car in bare metal like that showcasing the modifications done that cleanly was very impressive.

Maybe "improve" was too strong a word.

But at least some people like the popular mods you might see on a '32 Ford or a '49 Merc.  (Hence they are "popular")  I can't think of a single heavily-modded 68-70 charger body that was widely even liked.  Virtually nobody else besides the builder ever likes what has been changed.  People don't always agree on what the best artwork is but we usually agree on what we don't like.

I'll agree to that. Define "we", though.
Yet on the opposite end of the spectrum when someone says they prefer stock they are labelled as a purist & a hater.
Seemingly the "haters" rear their heads in these threads more than others. That is just a casual observation.

WHITE AND RED 69

I think most people are missing the point of this build. It's a 2000 hp top speed machine that is a work in progress, not a stock resto or a street car. It is supposed to do 200 mph+ in this form and has a bolt on aero kit that should help it get to 250 mph+. I for one am glad to see someone building a mopar to this level and can't wait to see it finished.

While i'm not a wide body fan, it was done with a reason behind it. The pictures don't show that the rear rims are 18" wide. If it is going to be doing 200 mph long distance runs i'm sure the longer wheelbase will help keep it stable. All the body mods were tastefully done, they kept all features that make it a charger. Grill, gas cap, tail lights, bumpers, body lines, and put a twin turbo 2000 hp motor under the stock hood. Job well done in my book.

And if you check out the build you will see they took a rusted out junk charger with no vin or fender tag and will put it to some use rather than let some one scrap it for parts.

Sure. After that I'll prove that chocolate ice cream with sprinkles is better than plain chocolate ice cream.

Also, we'll be sure the owner of the wide-body Charger gets one of these:

he should have gone all the way and widened to the front since the car is ruined anyway. It would be interesting to see a charger almost the same size as a chev impala.

personally i love it! but i feel like it could use some black rims  :2thumbs:

Hmmm, a C-body Charger.

Dino

Sweet metal work!  So nice to not see a bondo Charger for a change.

I don't care about the rest,  if it's supposed to be a race car than obviously you don't want it to be stock, that would be one hell of a poor choice for a race car.

It's also not my car so I don't care what someone else does to his or her property, I do admire the work.   :yesnod:
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Go to your local Dodge dealership - they have them in stock.

It was widened and displayed in bare metal, for the specific purpose of showing the craftsmanship of their metal work and fabrication.
I read this was at a trade show for the auto body business.
