man thats nice... so why is it called 69 wanna be? is it a 68 or 70?  :shruggy:

I bought it as a 68 model but I had my heart set on a 69. The guy gave me such a great deal on it I couldn't pass it up so I bought it and over a 12 or 13 year period of picking at it I made it into the car I wanted from the beginning. Gonna do the 69 seat covers next and thats about it. The dash pad is still in great shape so i'm not gonna bother changing it until it get in alot worse shape. It only has one small crack in it rite now and the dash bezels being 68 doesn't bother me at all. The exterior is all 69 tho rite down to the now working reverse lights!! ;D

Awesome ride and congrats on making it what you wanted in the first place!

For sure.  I don't know that I could have done it.

If it was a numbers matching 68 R/T or something I would have never converted it to a 69 but it was a rough around the edges nothing was matching to the car except that the VIN number states that it was a 383 two barrel 4 speed car. None of the engine/ tranny/ bellhousing/ or anything else that actually belonged to the car was there, it had all been swapped around. So actually I didn't see why making it the car of my dreams would be such a bad idea. Since it needed quarter panels and a rear valence I figured I would just go ahead and get the new fenders that AMD was selling and just get it all for a 69 model. The grille and taillight panel had already been changed in 06 and 07 so that was already in there before we started on the major repairs that consists of all the pics thats been posted here. Honestly I like the 69 taillights over the 68 model's and the grille in the 69 is a favorite too although the 68 and 70 grilles are awesome looking too. I have always been a DOH fan and the general lee will always be my favorite TV car so that had alot of influence on me wanting to make this into a 69 model since even in the first few episodes that were filmed here in Ga they were converting 68's to 69's for the show and they did it through the rest of the series too. It was a little more costly but well worth it in the end and I don't think I hurt the value since most all the things we done have been improvements and upgrades!! ;D

Looks good.  A job well done :2thumbs:  At least the 68 lovers can't complain.  The factory done the same modifications :D

Ghoste

A dramatic improvement in looks how could they complain anyway?  :D

I noticed it was a general lee before you started the body work.  I love the general and that's what got me into chargers so much. You did an awesome job on the restoration! The conversion is nicely done also!!  :2thumbs: Super nice charger!!

Yes, it was a general lee for about the first 11 years that I have owned it. By 2010 it was looking bad at the quarter panels and other areas of the car that we patched up in 03 so I had already been working toward new metal for the rear of the car. I actually wanted to go black with a white R/T stripe but I decided to stay with the orange but decided not to do the uniform on it. So sold the vectors and bought some new magnum 500's and went with the black tail stripe.

Nice. That's a 70 stripe right ?

Its a 69 R/T stripe actually. The 70 stripe is a solid stripe where the 69 stripe has the script in it.  :yesnod:
