Howdy all, just wondering what insurance companies out there will cover homes with rotties? spoke with a company today and one of their questions was do you have dogs? short pause on my part, umm yeah i have four, "what kind, sir?", umm rotweillers. "let me check on that... sorry sir, we can't help you".  so sick of these(and other breeds) getting a bad reputation.

Fred

How strange.  I'm in Aussie of course but with any Home Insurance Policy, I've always found that dogs were favoured by them even more so than locks on doors and windows as they are a very good deterrent.  I guess they don't want to foot the bill for any liability payout if your dogs attack and you are sued.
We have always had Rottweilers too and have never had any problems with insurance.

Exactly what i was thinking too. After having this type of dog for a long time, wouldnt trade them for anything. The whole reason we ended up getting the first one was due to a break in, could still happen, but not as easy i guess. Its all in the training, environment and temperment of the dogs or there owners that can get problematic.

Fred

Our dogs are first and foremost pets, (very much loved) the rest comes naturally to them anyway and doesn't need to be forced. It's a shame that they get such a bad wrap. They're really very loving dogs.
Our dogs are always well behaved except when someone is breaking and entering.
Do yours come with tails these days? We have new laws here that no longer allow tail docking.

This is true, but State Farm insurance has a list of "aggressive breeds" I think they call it & I believe rates do go up if you own a dog on the list. I did not see the list but mentioned we got a dog & they brought the list up.

no tail....but if you look close, you will see green feet from following me around when I was mowing the lawn.

Would the insurance company that said they would not help you be considered "biased" or "unprofessional" because of that remark about the dogs owned?

Mr Fixit. I have never been asked that question before. While I have a big breed they don't have a bad reputation, you really can't get any bigger than mine.

"Discrimination" was the word I was trying to say in my post above about the insurance company....yes? No?

Yes insurance companies have a list of dogs they consider aggressive. When my insurance company was updating my policy several years ago they asked the dog question. I was shocked that our Siberian Husky (a licensed therapy dog) was on their aggressive dog list.
