Searching for 1973 Charger

In 1973, I bought my first new car, a 1973 Charger purchased in Shreveport, LA.  It was black with a multi-colored rally stripe down the side and had black interior.  It also was without factory air which made it pretty warm in the Louisiana summers.  Family obligations took precedence and I traded the Charger in 1976.  Now that I'm retired and have the time, I have been trying to locate the Charger as not only was it my first new car but was also a car I loved dearly.

I've tried VIN searches but haven't had much luck.  Any of you have a good idea on where I might start?  It may be like trying to find the "needle in a haystack"  but thought I'd give it a try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tilar

Have you tried starting with the person or company that you sold or traded it to?

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

Thanks for the response.  Yes I tried.  Unfortunately the company closed its doors several years ago.

Was it a 340/4 speed car? sounds like one my buddy had. Last I knew of that one it was in Ontonagon Mich. (Lake Superior shore) in the mid 80's.

No, it was a 400 with an automatic on the column.  Thanks.

Are you still in Shreveport, is that where you traded the car?

poncho3612

We live in the Dallas area now.  I traded the car in 1976 in Bossier City, LA at Red River Chevrolet.  I think they are still in business so I'm going to try checking with them to see if they have any records on it.  Thanks.

That's worth a try but I doubt privacy laws will allow them to tell you anything. Assuming they even have, or are willing to search the sales records.

You are correct, I probably won't get much from them but I'm about to run out of options.  I've sent them an inquiry so I'll just wait and see what happens.  Thanks.

You need to find a friend on the inside.  (if they have the records)
