Dash lights suddenly don't work

There was an older thread on this topic but I thought I would revive in case anyone has the same issue. I am by no means a mechanic but you don't necessarily need to be with these old gems. So the story goes that my dash/heater/radio  and console lights stopped working. Thinking fuse, that's the first place I went. Fuse was fine, but no power. Headlights/park lights and dome light all fine so I didn't suspect the headlight switch. All the same I had a new spare headlight switch and within 20 minutes everything was working perfectly again. Hope this is able to help someone who suddenly experiences the same thing.
