Hi guys,

I was wondering, what's needed to put T56 from 1995 Camaro LT1 on 440 big block Charger 1973?

I have complete 1995 LT1 and T56, so can I use that flywheel, clutch and tranny, or I need new flywheel, bellhousing, input shaft...?

Thanks a lot in advance.

My guess is that you need an 11" pressure plate and the Camaro's friction disc. Don't forget that in the F bodies, the transmission is angled up slightly.  It makes for a nice , cozy install in its intended application but may give you fits with driveline alignment in your car.

I'll be sticking a t56 behind my 440 eventually but that's a ways away.  Look up Stuart's thread where he installed one in his Superbird.  Apart from the mentioned parts, you'll have to cut the top of your trans tunnel out to fit that monster.  All worth it though.   :icon_smile_big:

I know about the tunnel, that's not a problem :)

I want to know what parts I need (flywheel, bellhousing, other input shaft...)

Could you please tell me where is that Stuart's thread?

Thanks.

I wouldn't put too much power on that Camaro t56.  If your car is a cruiser, you'd be fine.  But, from what I've read elsewhere, they are weak.  Viper t56 have beefed up internals to address these problems.

What's weak about it escapes my memory at the moment.  Maybe, someone else will chime in.

I think it's all bs so we'd buy the more expensive one.  My wife's T/A has the 'weak' T56 and it's way faster than a Charger.  And she beats on that thing.

I think that's bs also, regarding "weak" T56..

One important question, are the bolt holes on 440 block the same as small block 350 holes (I mean on holes for transmission)?

No, you will need a bell housing to mate the T-56 to a mopar engine.  Around 4-500 bucks.

It was more or less a rumor that I'd heard.  Thought I'd throw it out there for some feedback.  I will say that the LT1 version has a shorter input shaft LS1 version.

Here's a nice tech article on it. :popcrn:
