Rust in trunk floor?

I have been watching a lot of the 68-70 Chargers that have been listed on ebay for the last 6 months. The ones that need a lot of work all seem to badly rusted trunk floors. Not being up on the Charger that much What was the cause of the trunk rust? Was it usually water leaking in and getting under the trunk mat? If so, where are these cars known to leak from?  What should I be looking for buying??

Usually they leak in the lower rear window corners. The way the sail panels meet with the rear window allows leaves and water to pool in those areas (and the trim hides gunk as well). The water leaking in eventually rusts out the center of the floor as well. If it's from a rust-belt state, the salty water from winter roads will eat out the wheelhouses, rear valence, rear crossmember, and valence corners which will then leak and rust the trunk. The mat that sits between the gas tank and body holds moisture too and will rust the trunk floor from the outside in.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
