That's a pretty cool ride.....I'd like to see it restored to a period "1970's as raced condition", however it looks like a lot of fun right now "as-is"! :icon_smile_wink:

Shoooot (spoken like Mator from cars) restored? Nah, too much fun but does need quarters. The four door I cut up to make one of the quarters for it back 1994, looks pretty bad now. Just didn't have the cash back then.

Reminds me of a guy who used to run around here with a Dart back in the day (circa '90). It was a true sleeper. Beat, rusted, and green. And it ran like a bat outta hell.

This car was built to take care of one of my rivals in the 5.0 croud back in 1996.
It does seem to get the " that pos ain't got no business going that fast. Get it back on the trailer" comments at the track..
Right before it gets flagged by tech.

TRUE junk going relatively fast, but one of my buddies just built a $20k 416 ci small block that's running 7.20s in a sedan Valiant..
Junk won't go but so fast against big money.
Unlike many in the "rat rod" world, when I say its junk, it actually is......

I don't mind a cowl on an A-body but they look odd on a B-body ; especially a 2ng gen Charger.  :P

Your Dart has that real old school look going with the flat black hotrod paint and the Centerline auto drag's  :coolgleamA:

What suspension and is the car minitubbed at all ? How's it hook ?

Tried 4 years in a row to buy a hood at Carlisle. Dude kept bringing like two hoods and wouldn't sell at show price and ship later so I got pissed off and cut up an old fox body hood and made my own.

Well, if you was to look under/in this heap you'd fall over laughing like many that do...
Yes the springs are moved and sorta mini tubbed if you can call it that.
On a soft motor launch, footbraking, then spray, on Hoosiers it musters out a 1.80 60ft.
Homemade SS springs, 7.41 carrier and small u joints, with a welded driveshaft.
Junk. My old auto mech. Teacher saw it run once a just shook his head. He said that car with what's in it ain't got no business going that fast. Get it on the trailer before you stuff it in the guard rail.
I ran it on spray for 10 years before the 8 point cage. And only then due to tech guys giving me grief for 7.49 and quicker.

Sometimes teachers know too much.  They tend to tell what wont work and that discourages "thinking out of the box" or with what we have.
I have been told many times over the years to not bother with something I tried that worked just fine thank you.
Not to mention the fun and challenge involved :2thumbs:

Sounds like the suspension is working fine.  :icon_smile_big: It could probably use more tire based on the soft launches but still....it runs very well for what it is.  :2thumbs:

The light weight is saving the 741 and small u-joints. That stuff is a lot stronger than most people give it credit for. Back in the mid 60's the Max wedge cars used 741 carriers with great success. The small pinion diameter gets a bad rap.....I've never seen a 741 pinion break....usually the caps blow off or the ring gear teeth break. Interesting fact ; the pinion shaft diameter on a 741 is the same as the mighty Dana 60.  :icon_smile_big:

Seen lots of light cars race with the 7260 joints as well. The solid Spicer joints are pretty tough  :smash:

I have a 741 carrier in my car. I've always read the bad rap these housing got in Mopar media but never understood why?  Magazines who claimed they are inferior to the 742 and 489 never provided any real world data to back up their claims as far as I know.  :shruggy:

Most articles simply point to the smaller tapered pinion shaft as a potential weaknesss.  It must not have been be a big issue since Mother Mopar ran these on factory Maxies. :icon_smile_wink:

Drove the black roach to a cruise night 80 miles round trip tonight. Managed to squeeze out 11 mpg @3000 rpm.
Think I might have ut sold to boot. Hate get rid of a car I've had so long (1992). Since I don't have any kids of my own, the cars are kinda like my kids. But, one goes so another can take its place.
