Old style 2 piece trunk floor vs new AMD one piece

Question :

Any guys here that worked with both in the past?

Thing is, I bought my car back in 2006 and it came with the 2 piece trunk floor that was regular back then. I think it's a Sherman or a goodmark piece.

At this point I'm tackling the bodywork of the car and I have the lower valance out so a one piece AMD floor would be an option.
I need to order all the parts I need so a full trunk floor would not be a big extra shipping cost.
I want to do this right but not at any cost, I know it's "only" around $400 for the full trunk floor but I guess I'm gonna end up saying that alot before this car will get done.
Its not only the money issue but also the other factors like looks when done, fitting, less welding/griding...

So use the shitty 2 piece floor or buy an new AMD one piece floor.
I could always sell or trade the 2 piece floor for a couple bucks....

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I agree with Ken.  If you take your time a two piece can be almost invisible.  It's a little extra work to finish the seam inside the trunk, and to make sure it's well waterproofed under the car, but that gets mostly hidden by the tank.  If that's what you already have I'd use it.

I guess it all depends on what you want to do. It sounds like you won't be happy unless you have a full AMD pan, and that's fine...you need to do what makes you happy.

With that being said, I just put a new trunk floor in my 68 Charger. I plan on this car being a driver, and I'm trying to watch how I spend my money on this one. So I bought the 2 piece floor for it, it was $242 shipped to my door, compared to $500 for an AMD part. The quality of the 2 piece seems just as good as any other reproduction part. I have bought AMD parts in the past (Bumpers, front valance, tail panel) and to be honest, for the money, they are really no better than any other reproduction part...they are good parts, but they have their flaws.

Good luck and let us know how it goes,

My whole 70 shell is pretty well made of AMD. The 1 piece trunk pan was the best fitting piece installed. It fit like a glove.

If your time is worth anything to you go witht he 1 piece. Figure in your time, putying, grinding, sand paper, electricity. The 2 piece will cost more in the long run.

a friend of mine just put in a 2 piece and you would never know there was a seem,  then again he did not have to change the rear body panel.   If the rear panel needs to be changed then to me its a no brainier to use the one piece floor

The day I bought my car I knew that one day I'd be replacing the trunk floor.  I found the 2 piece on CL for $100 so I grabbed it.  My valance will be removed as well but I'm not going to buy a 1 piece floor when this will work just fine.  Since you are able to slide a 1 piece in and out, you can trim the two pieces to fit, weld part of the seam, pull the floor back out and finish the seam out of the car.  That'll give you the opportunity to make that seam completely invisible.  When done slide it back in place and finish it off.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Doesn't AMD sell their own two-piece floor off the same tooling as their 1-piece?

Yes, I believe they sell it as a 2 piece too.

Yeah, but the 2 piece floor is the only option when every other part is in good shape.

So a one piece floor can only be used when the valence is out, since the one piece floor wont go trough the trunk opening.

I'm gonna stick to my two piece floor. Since I do all the work myself labour does not const money and I'm not in a hurry so I'll take my time and do the extra work needed to hide the seam...
