Oil Pump, Oil Filter and Oil Pan Question.

1. How do you get a stub-burn (is that spelled right) off? Road Runner has not been driven in 8 years and god knows the last time I changed the oil before that last drive. Today I tried to get the old filter off and the canister stated to collapse. Saturday I going to go at it with a breaker bar, if that does not work just chisel it off?

2 If I cannot get the filter off, I am going to pull the oil pump. While I have it off I would like to boost the oil pressure a little. I am fresh out of Hemi springs, so could I just add a washer?

3 Oil pan, OK back to question 2. I have a fresh high volume oil pump and harden oil pump drive from the ill fated blown 440 with very, very low miles. The 440 made 60 PSI at idle. Old 440 had a 9 quart pan and 1/2 pickup tube.

Now the 383 in the Runner has it stock pickup and its stock 5 quart pan. I know in theory there is not sufficient oil in the pan for the returning oil to drain back in. Current 383 is old and somewhat tired, with the stock pump according to the 20+ year old after market gauge it was down to 10 PSI at idle with a high of around 50 PSI.

All thoughts are welcomed.

A couple of misconceptions:

1) "A heavy spring or shim will increase the oil pressure". This is true only if the pressure remains constant after warmup, if the pressure is high when cold but drops off as the engine warms up, a spring or shim won't raise the pressure because the low pressure is caused by low volume.

2) "A high-volume pump will pump the sump dry". This is true only if the engine can use the additional volume and only if you stay at high rpm for a long time. If the engine can't use the extra volume the volume turns into excessive pressure and power drain.

In the case of a tired 383 the HV pump will likely increase the pressure but I don't see a problem with 10 and 50.

As to the stubborn filter, a cold chisel at an angle around the mounting flange as last resort.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Way back in 1968 when I did the first oil change, the filter came off in many many pieces!
