Please explain.

How is it illegal to buy it?

"Q: Uhh, mr. seller, can I use the vin and tag on a Charger that a guy sold me very cheap and that I know he has had in his garage for years and lost the tag and vin number?...and do you include the "rose rivets" with the tags?"   :brickwall:

It's not illegal to buy it though.  Just to reuse it.  I'm sure some tag collector just wants them to hang on his wall or something. :icon_smile_big:

Couple years ago an auction like that came up. I believe the seller was based in Iowa.

I sent an email with a link to the auction to the Iowa State Polices (or whatever state it was).

Got a nice thank you note from Johnny Law.

Actually, now that I think about it, I believe that auction also included a title.

Fender tags are legal to buy and sell as collectibles as long as they are not stolen.

VIN tags are different. Merely being in possesion of a VIN tag that is not attached to a vehicle is against Federal Law.

Buying or selling VIN tags with or without titles is also illegal.

Now that part I was not aware of.  Does anyone know if there is a similar federal ruling in Canada?  (and no, I am not planning on selling vin tags, I'm just curious)

There was a guy selling a title to a crushed '67 Charger earlier this year on eBay. I got ahold of the VIN and registered it.
