A couple of antenna questions

First, the bezel. I've got what's allegedly a Charger antenna bezel but it doesn't fit the antenna hole. There's a couple pics of it below and the p/n is 2889925 95660. Is this the correct bezel?

Second, the mast. Everything else I have looks to be correct except for the mast. While digging around the site I've discovered that my 68 is supposed to have a telescoping mast but what I've got is a solid one. I've never seen a 2nd gen telescoping mast off the car so is it just a matter of unscrewing the solid mast and screwing in an OE or reproduction telescoping mast?

yep   my original is  2889925 ,   the telescoping mast just screws in like the later  shorter solid thin mast  , will  take a picture later

Ok, I guess I'll have to do some filing on the fender hole and bezel. Not sure why it's not going in but like everything else with this car, it ain't happening without a fight.

Back N Black

Mine did not fit because of paint build up around the hole, same with the door locks. I had to file the edges to fit.

Did you file the fender or the bezel?

mine just pressed in ( original fenders )  ,  was a little  tight because of all the high build primer & 4 coats of yellow,  i greased the bezel before pressing it in  , cause i'm nutts like that  :P

Thanks!

One more thing. I'm going to the Mopar Nats in Woodburn on Sunday and there's a good chance I'll be able to score an antenna mast there. Can you (or anyone) post some pics of what it should look like along with a measurement of the closed and open length? I need to make sure I'm buying the right one and not some GM look-alike.

someone correct me if I'm wrong....but I didn't think the telescoping ones screwed on to the base..I thought it was all one piece with the main part that's under the fender.

my 66 one does not come off

:shruggy: According to what I've researched I've got the correct, 90-degree base with the right part number on it and it's threaded inside.

Ghoste

My 67 one is like that Bull, threaded inside.

Dino

Looks correct.  I'm pretty sure that was the one on my old 68 and yes it did have a telescoping antenna on it.  The 69 has the thin solid antenna.

I only have a few pictures left of that car and none of the antenna.

my antenna mast  extends to 57 "  as far as i know all 68 -70 chargers  had the same !

the later single thin solid wire was from 72 i think  :scratchchin:

Mopars did NOT use a solid (non-telescoping) antenna until after 71 some time.

Not sure what year they went from solid base to screw-in base.....I'll say sometime during 66-68.....can't remember what was on my 67-X. Frank B. knows for sure.

And here I thought I had a 'base' model antenna.

While we're on the subject, any power telescoping antenna's out there that look like a mopar one?

This is a pic of a repo antenna mast I picked up last year from Jamie at MegaParts. We were at the Mopar Nats in Columbus and it looked much nicer then the original on my car. The dimensions look the same at 57" extended and 22" collapsed. The only difference I noticed between the repo and the original is when they are collapsed the repo has a rattle to it like the 3 sections are bumping into each other when you tap it. Not a big deal, but the original is definitely more heavy duty.

Thanks everyone. Finally got the hole hogged out enough to accommodate the bezel. Everything is in place and ready for a new mast. :2thumbs:
