Replacing shocks. How many jack stands needed?

Am I supposed to put stands under the rear axle to replace the rear shocks or do I need stands under the frame itself or both?  What about the front?  Which part(s) do I support?

Any tips on how to get to the upper bolt on the rears?  Doesn't look like there's much room to play.

Just 6T9 CHGR

For the rear, Stands under the frame & a jack to raise & lower the rear end.  Once the rear assy is lowered to its lowest  (shocks fully extended) there is room to get the top bolts.

The fronts can be done either jacking under the lower control arm (just have to compress shocks to get them to fit inside upper control arm) or while letting suspension fully hang (jacking under front frame)

Forgot my own thread again... :rotz:

Thanks Chris!  I may tackle it this weekend but I hear it's gonna be 90 degrees and high humidity and I can't take much of that.

Hey look!  It's a year later and the shocks are still in the boxes!

Gotta get off my butt and just do this.

Don't feel bad about that Dino....seems to happen to me with alarming regularity anymore! To much  :popcrn: :popcrn: for me lol. On another note the weather in my area appears to be about the same as when you posted last year :icon_smile_cool:. After I past 50 it seems I've spent more time thinking than doing . Nope   :icon_smile_big:

I did get extra tall jack stands and a new jack but I need the timing set and ideally fix whatever is causing the hiccup before I do anything else to the car.

Once it's sorted out then I'll put it up high and do shocks, fuel lines, sending unit, add H pipe to exhaust, find and fix trans drip and whatever else I can find that needs attention.

Dino , if you have good quality stands jack it up from centre of diff , put the stands under the axle tubes , I always like jack my car up from where shes designed to have that stress,  the wheels suspension, look in the boot if you have orginal part of floor over differential, i'm sure there are floor plugs over the top bolts , ratchet ring spanner job from there, I am sure that's how I did mine last,
don't forget to chock front wheels, stay safe is most important Dino , big heavy car ,

Yes!  Safety first!

I got the 12 ton jack stands from HF.  They are the most beefy stands I've ever seen.  I wall also be using my smaller stands under the car just in case.  It's good to have a backup.

I never thought about the floor plugs, I do have the original floor.  Thanks for the tip!   :2thumbs:
