Nuts & Bolts Storage - What Do You Guys Prefer?

I've been "remodeling" the work space in my basement that's mostly used for wood working projects. It's not really remodeling so much as just finally setting it up to be a more efficient space to work in. One thing I do like to have & use, are the storage drawer units that stand upright that have the clear drawers so you can see exactly what you're getting. I've bought a bunch of these over the years & have them loaded up completely. A few months ago I got two more that I needed, but had no place to put them that was convenient so I started to plan the new shop layout.

Last week I bought some building materials including sheet rock, rigid insulation, lumber, a few odds & ends, & finally got busy. The hardest part was moving 24 years worth of accumulated crap.    When I got around to moving the storage drawer units, I noticed that some of them were all cracked & starting to come apart. They haven't been moved in years & weren't hanging on the wall, they were on shelves. I know I had loaded them up pretty good but not to the point where they were binding up, bent or sagged. That's what I get for buying cheap plastic I suppose.    ::)

I've been checking craigslist & looking online for metal ones but have had no luck. Other than spending a small fortune on steel units, like the $259.00 one pictured below, what do you guys use?   :shruggy:

Several years ago, a local hardware store here (Home Base) went out of business.  During its closing sale, I noticed a sign saying fixtures were for sale too.  In the plumbing department, they had a series of 4 panels on which were attached many rows of tilt-out plastic storage drawers.  I got 4 panels, all the drawers, all the plumbing bits in the drawers (o-rings, washers, packing, etc) and the overhead rollers for $100.

The bins look like this:  http://www.quill.com/deflect-o-tilt-bin-interlocking-storage-bins/cbs/141128.html?cm_mmc=SEM_PLA_OS_141128

I installed the panels in two sliding rows along the side of the garage (in that otherwise unuabale 1 foot space between the car and the side wall).

So, I'd suggest looking for local hardware store closings.  Cheers~

Best, Neal

Fred....

You should consider taking some time to do inventory.

Are you kidding me Bob!   Everything's got it's own container and is in it's proper place.  :nana:

Besides, that would take me a life time and I haven't got that long!   :smilielol:
