It's 2007 again, what would you do different?

  Looking through a 2007 Mopar Action I came across a sidebar questioning the future of Chrysler. It got me thinking back to that time, what I did and could have done. Working with the same company in construction for 10 years I was use to gaps in working between contracts, normally it was a chance to profit well by doing my own jobs or specialty work for other contractors.
  Out of loyalty to my then job I spent a good 18 months in limbo, the next job was always 1 or 2 months from starting. I missed 5-6 grand in potential income because a secretary didn't tell a supervisor I was available. 60 days later when I checked back and got Nick on the the phone he was beside himself having desperately needed my skills for a few projects and put me straight to work. In hindsight had I just drove over and looked him up the first day I'd most likely had made much much more for an entire year. Sick of the whole construction thing, using my Charger as a truck, trunk stuffed to the brim with screwguns, saws, levels, squares and tools I asked myself what "I wanted to do".
  Having lost friends since my early years to "wars" and being a Veteran myself, with the largest VHA facility in the south just 2 miles from my house I focused on getting hired there. It took 8 months of applying for ANY position, waiting as "not selected" letters slowly trickled in. Then the day before Thanksgiving, in the mailbox, you have been selected for a permanent position! The best Thanksgiving ever, a great position in Logistics that turned out to be with a great bunch of people. A week later a second letter! Two job offers, the second for more money but not a permanent position, I stuck with the first.
  Although it was the toughest 2 1/2 years I'd ever been through I'm fairly certain I did good in the end. 
Whats happened to you since 2007? 
PS My old company has and still is struggling, small contracts here and there with a few good large jobs possible soon but nothing obligated.

I would have been way more careful in choosing business partners, or better yet just did it on my own.

Let's see. 2007..Hmmmm, Well, after working for a guy who bounced my paycheck 21 times that I counted before I stopped counting, I'd have had the good sense to get out before showing up one day for work and there's a padlock on the door and a Federal Tax ID number in the paper under his name.

I'd have probably decided to live on the wild side a little and open my own damn shop. (Nah, prolly just have played it safe and did what I done and worked for someone else).

I actually remember mentioning something bout the Economy being "In the toilet" way back in 2005 at a car show talking to my HS Auto mechanics teacher. I can still hear him say "Nahh, Nothing wrong with the economy, something might be wrong with YOUR economy, but the country's doing fine"

I guess my crystal ball had a little crack and was "off" by about 3 years huh?

Hmmm that is when I got the charger. lets see, the night I got it it was in perfect running order minus stalling in third gear. when the guy who also is a member here dropped it off at my house, I drove it to my moms house to show her. that was 1/4 mile away but she wasn't home. i then rode down the street a mile away, went across in the field and did a couple of donuts/shity's to feel the power and to fill a life long dream. next i pulled across the street to the man cave. It has sat since then. I pulled the motor out the next day and sent out out to get worked the next weekend (540 it also is sitting in storage) knowing what I know know I would take budnicks advice in his posts and fill my library first... the car is in need of minor work just cant see my self shellin out the cash to finish it right now. As much as I could live in it a payment on the paint job or a payment on the house, the house comes first. i can not risk the nest egg on that. It is a toy and will always come second.







OH..... AND NOT GET MARRIED  the car could have been done if it was not for the time and money spent on her!

I probably would have cleaned up the garage...it's still an option I know, but I just can't bring myself to do it.   

I don't think I would've done anything different except start college sooner.  I would be close to having that degree in my pocket.

I would have invested about 100 large in gold and I'd be sitting pretty right now.

that's when i discovered my ex was a cheating ho    and i let her walk without worrying about a divorce ( trouble followed last year ) so I'd just get a simple divorce  back when i had nothing and it would be all good now
