God it pisses me off when I go look at an 87-93 Mustang GT and some dip-shit swapped the factory grated GT tail lights for the ugly ass LX ones...  It actually bothers me so much, I walk away from buying the car if someone swapped them, and they didnt keep the original ones.  Anyone else feel like I do?  I seriously want to drag these people out into the street and beat them with their own shoe...

You know its a slow day for me if I am on a Mopar site bitching about mustang tail lights...  :slap:

Could they actually be Lx's that were converted to GT's?

No, these are GT cars with complete ground effects, fog lights, real GT cars (that look 100 times better than LX stangs)... Just pisses me off becuase for one, it looks like shit, and second the factory grated GT tail lights are painted to match body color, so replacing them and getting the paint to match is a bitch.  One in a while, you see a nice GT driving down the road, then the dip shit put LX tail lights on it or cut the rear bumper for duel exhaust, and it ruins it for me!!  They take the unique styling off their car and put the common 4 banger mustang tail lights in... WTF??!!

I have had fox bodys since 2002. On my 3rd presently. Just finding a rust free car especially a coupe is a deed in itself these days.
1st was a GT that was pretty much stock with headers and original pain when I got it. Ended up total color swap and a HCI 351W,tremec tko ect. I never used to like Lx's especially coupes. Then I got my first coupe about 4 years ago (a red one) and can never go back.

I kept the GT lights in my car, but i dunno some days I think Lx lens would have looked better others not. I think my biggest pet peeve is coupes with saleen wings and Gt ground kits.

Nice GT ~ Looks Good!  KEEP YOUR GT LIGHTS!  Nice Pony wheels on that LX!  I have had 13 or 14 Fox Body GT 5 speeds, seems to be my affordable car of choice since my mopars are anything but affordable...  Those little foxes are a great car for the money!

Well, coming from a HUGE fan of the Old skool 5.0 liter Mustang croud, many seem to like the LX tail lights instead of those goofy. Fluted, GT tail lights. Gives the back of the car, ESPECIALLY, a GT, a more cleaner look IMO. (and obviously other opinions as well).

What about the '93 "Cobra" Mustang that came through with nothing more than older 1984-86 Tail lights?

Just an observation from a long time 5.0 guy. :2thumbs:

Now THIS would discourage even me from a Fox Body....

I'm man enough to admit I was one of those jerks! I had bought a 92 green and silver GT the first I didwas remove the cheese grater taillights and swapped them for LX ones. In my opinion the car looks cleaner with the LX lights, to me the factory ones are just tacky looking, all in all my favorite year fox mustang is the 86 GT as I had one for years, I do not like the 87-93 GT's all the ground effects etc. imo make them look to bulky the 5.0 LX is lighter and better looking imo.of those 87 and up years. They are a simple bang for the buck, my red 86 with 5spd. and the stock 3.08 gears turned 14:71 stone stock, after installing 3.73's a off road h-pipe, k&n drop in filter and bumped the timing up and light weight weld wheels on street tires turned a best of 13:89 @ 98mph. not bad for a motor only rated at 200h.p. only option mine had was air cond. and am/fm cassette, no power options etc.

I prefer the LX notchbacks 5.0's less fancy crap and more go...
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

I never liked the GT tail lights and was never a big fan of the GT's period. LX's have always been my favorite besides the '93 Cobra. I just sold my '90 last week.....

:iagree: I still have my 90 5spd. coupe, got it around 2002, bought it to flip, but liked it to much so i kept it.  :D

I like the cobra tail lights... On Cobras...  the LX tail lights seem too PLAIN JANE for my taste, gotta have those GT tail lights, they make the car...  Also gotta have the factory ground effects, fog lights, hatchback, spoiler, really makes fox body look killer.  I thought the LX lacked a lot of style points... And your only talking about like a couple hundred pound difference between an LX and a GT, so theres not that much more go with an LX.  All hail the GT with correct tail lights!

Troy

Really, how hard is it to switch tail lights? ;) The guy who swapped them probably sold the GT lights on eBay, Craigslist, or on one of the forums so I'm sure there are bound to be more available. We have several businesses around here who part out fox body Mustangs so I can't imagine that it wouldn't be terribly hard to find a set.

I've had a couple but have never been motivated enough to want to change the tail end. Some people just like modifying stuff I guess.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

GOTWING

you can swap them in 5-10 min. 200 lbs is two tenths at the track !

Cooter

Yeah, but a 200 Shot is a full second too....

I was dumb founded to find out my lil 91 coupe is more rare than my 70 Charger r/t lol
Too bad it didn't command the same price.

Gt tailights on a black car look mean. On a flat hood bone stock Gt the Cheese graters look good. Once you start moddifying sometimes the lx lights look better imo.

I'm tempted to do a 5 lug swap and add some prostars on my notch, but i'm liking the sleeper look. Other than the slightly rough idle nobody would think there is aluminum heads, intake.

Pulls hard with sticky tires i'm sure its got a 7.9-8 second 1/8th in it.

Speaking of the gt lights it reminds me when i got the Gt back around 2001-02 the synchros were toast in the T-5 and while it was at the tranny shop they left it outside for 1 night and the GT lens were stolen.

pettybird

I got my car with LX lights, and I also hated them.  I landed a really sweet set of 85-86 tails, and those are my favorites.  I tripped over a set of cheese graters at a swap meet in black, which is the color of my car.  They're in there now.

Ghoste

Cheese graters.    (they are the ones I like on those cars)
