Have a 66 charger, we put in  a 1976  440  r. v.  motor 38 k miles. It starts fine and idles then it will stop and won't restart. It will start after it sits for a while and  do THE SAME THING again.Driving me crazy want to get bugs out but can't get it running long enough to do anything. Here is what I have new rebuilt distributor, pertronix ignitor and pertronix coil a new holley 650.The engine ran fine when in motor home.I am getting fuel to carb.Thinking its in the ignition somewhere Any Ideas????????????  Thanks

ALOT of things can cause what you describe. How is the coil hooked up? Is it a "Resistor" type? or NON- resistor type?

Check bulkhead connector for corrosion.
I'd be loloking into something overheating like a coil, ignition component, but COULD also be running out of fuel. Need more info.

I have the ballast resistor hooked up still with the pertronix coil  I read that can cause problems but my 66 300 has been hooked up the same way for 10 years ?? I will try the stock coil and see if that works.ALSO try disconnecting the ballast and see if that will work. The bulkhead does look little rough I did get some new terminals and a new engine harness.WAS waiting to get the bugs out before switching that but maybe now might be a good time. The carb seems to be getting plenty of fuel. Thanks for the suggestions If all else fails I could throw the points and condenser back in.Good point about the coil hook up I will take a look at the 300's and see if there is anything different .Thanks again.

If it restarts after sitting for a whle. You might want to look at your fuel system as well??? Just a thought. I am fighting some vapour lock issues right now. The car will start and run great and then just die, and is very hard to restart and sometimes need to sit for a while before it will.

IF its only running for approx 2 mins though , that is pretty short time.

Just something to check.

Found the issue !!  bypassed the ballast resistor and it ran fine but now the de bugging continues.Have coolant dripping on exhaust manifold on drivers side, Could it be a freeze plug ready to give way ? I could not see anything but could hear the sizzling and see coolant underneath.Hopefully not a head gasket or worse  Any Ideas ???Thanks
