Need your opinons on body damage

I'm considering the Silverado in the pictures.  It's a low-miler with obvious body damage and a salvage title. The seller bought the truck at an auction, he is currently using it, and says it goes down the road straight.

I have the exact same truck, same year, same color, with nearly 300K miles and terminal rust-belt cancer.   The only good metal on my current truck is, by chance, the left fender, door and 1/2 door.   So, I think you can see where this is headed.........

My question is:   From the pictures, how extensive could the rocker damage be?  Just new rockers? Complete floor pan etc?  Why did they total it with only 100K? Was it just age?

Of course I will check it out in person, but, I'm interested in any opinions, as I am no body man.

Can't see rust in the pictures. Why was it a salvage title truck? Was it a floater? Or just on the rocker panel damage?

NHCharger

Damage doesn't look that bad. all the door gaps look uniform.Probably the age had something to do with totaling the truck. what year is it?

Why is the question.  The damage is what you see in the pictures.   Is the rocker damage indicative of a bigger more costly repair?

NHCharger

It's probably the age. These days they won't try to fix the doors and fender, they toss them and put on after market stuff. They repop the rockers, but it's a lot of work to cut out the old ones and install the new ones. They probably figured the floor was buckled with the damage to the rocker.

That rocker panel looks like it's pushed up and out!? Definately looks like it's had a rough time, I would check the underbody and make sure everything looks good and yes even with the mileage the year is why they total it, usually anything older than 8 years they total. A carfax will usually explain what happened, I ran one the other day at the auction on a pristine looking 2000 Trans Am convertable and it came back left side accident from front to back with trees!!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

GM decided to pack the inside of the rockers on many of these type trucks with that Expanding "foam" looking sh*t. Of course, you can understand why many have rockers eating up with rust. Not too bad of repair, but Will take some serious body work to get right. I'd say at a bodyshop, that's about $4-5K in damage.

$4-5 Rocker only?  Or is that with doors fenders and a possible bumper?

No, that would be total job out the door.

Or you could save yourself a bunch of money & trouble and just drive that truck as-is.

Right.  Probably with transplant sheetmetal from my truck.  I was checking to see if one of you guys might say "look out" it's much deeper than it looks.

It seems a little odd.  Whatever it ran over, it banged along the side too.

What is blue book value on that truck? let's say its $6500. Let's say bodywork/paint would be $5800. Now insurance offers owner $6500 or they can fix it and he'll have a truck with dirty title. What does owner do? Of course he takes money and walks away.

Thanks vwry much for the input.  Although it may be a moot point.  My "donor" truck was stolen yesterday.
