Speedometer adapter for 4.30 gears?

Anyone using an adapter when running low gears?  I installed a Tremec transmission and have 4.30 gears.  The 23 tooth speedometer driven gear is very flimsy and wore out very quickly.  I am considering using a ratio adapter and a gear with fewer teeth.  Does anyone have experience with this type of set up?  Does anyone have recommendations on where to get one?  I would like to keep the mechanical speedo.

Thank you.

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

any speedometer shop can make one...they will need to know both your reading speed and actual moving speed to calculate correct adapter....they ain't cheap though....

Thank you.  So best to find a local place.

This is a hurst driveline unit (TKO 600).  I did not do the install.   I still have to correct the driveline angles some more, but so far, I like it a lot.  I am also still learning how to drive the car.  :icon_smile_big:

You have 4.30 gears and are using a 23-tooth pinion?

Must be running 24" tires.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

John,

Not 24 " tires, but I am curious whether there is another option to change.

I am running 175 60 15s (I think 28")  I may drop back to a 27".

The 23 tooth driven gear is a ford part for the tremec I have and is as high as it goes.  There is a drive gear inside the transmission, that I think is 7 tooth.  Are there other options?
