To Everyone, I need your help.

I know this is a long shot but I got nothing to loose and maybe a family Mopar to gain.

I'm in search of my Dads 68 Charger R/T 440 4 speed dana rear. He sold it just before we moved from Sacramento North Highland near McClellan Air Force Base. We ended up moving to Southern Cali back around 1977 when I was 5.

When he sold it, it had a broken piston and smoked like a train before he parked it. It was Spring Red (Dark Orange, Dad called it Fiesta Red) in color, black interior, console, and hard top. It came with rump stripes but was removed when the left rear quarter was repaired back in that time.

The car came from Texas originally. Apparently the previous owner smoked the trans in or near Bakersfield or Taft California which is when he walked away from the car. Then it was towed to Sacramento where my Dad bought it used with the bad trans or clutch from 1st Western bank as a repo on Jan 21st, 1970. Because it was an out of state car the Cali Highway Patrol had to do a VIN verification at which point they told my Dad the block had no VIN numbers (warranty block I guess or maybe it the cop was confused because it had the order # not VIN). The car had some sort of chrome rims on it, see the pictures.

The car had black and yellow cali plates LWX915. And the VIN is XS29L8B438988.

Any help is greatly appreciated. If any leads turn up I'd be more than happy to pay a finders fee. I'm thinking $1,000 if I'm able to purchase the car. Yes, the kid in the pictures is me with my Mom and the Chargers hood leaning against the house.

I'm new to the site, and its pretty freaking awesome reading so much stuff on my favorite cars.

I can't see the picture.  I click the link and the Car Domain site wants me to create an account.  Can someone post the pic?    I love looking an old pics.

Thanks Erik.

Erike from Facebook right? Thanks for hooking me up with this site its pretty cool. I actually found a 68 Charger R/T 440 4 bbl 4 speed dana and thought this is close enough to Northern California to be possible. I guess it was rusty and he was asking 8 grand. So I called but it sold and it was a blue car. So close.

Johnny,
Oh ok, thanks for letting me know. I tried to post but the picture was too big of a file and my computer doesn't have the capability to compress. I'll try to mess with it at work to get it smaller to post.

Thank you. I called California DMV yesterday and they checked if it was on record for me but nothing. So I'll start calling States working outward from Cali and see if anything comes up.

Thanks for posting the pict Erik. I tried everything to try to shrink it with no luck. How did you do it?

I found this site too and added my dad's car to it. You have to sign up to search lost (people trying to track down a car they once owned) or found cars (guys looking for info from previous owners) but its pretty cool.

You can search by VIN or year make and model. If you type in my Dad's VIN, XS29L8B438988 it will take you to my post. I was checking out the 68-70 Chargers, there's not a ton but it could keep you busy if you look into all the Mopars there.

I downsized the image.

Too bad it has been silent in this thread, guess no one has any info.
