Daytona trunk mats...

What was used originally in the Daytona trunks?

Vinyl ?

Rubber ?

What was the pattern printed on them ?

Color(s) ?

Where can the most "correct" one be purchased ?

Are these things slick, or do they have a texture to them ?

If slick, how slick ?

I mean, if I put my picnic basket in the trunk and go around a corner at a reasonable speed,

Is it going to go shooting across the trunk floor and blast potato salad all over my wing braces ?

Or...

Would a giant hunk of avocado green shag carpet be more "period correct"?

Can't help you on the mat but I can offer a suggestion to keep potato salad from flying all over the trunk;

The great thing about a daytona is that you could get a cargo net from a newer vehicle (LX chassis for example) and bungee it to wing supports.

Maybe these will help.

If you put the potato salad in the net and stretch that bungee cord way out, is it enough to launch it across the parking lot at the dude's car with the wallet chain that just leaned on your fender to take a picture?

I've got something else to launch at chain boy's car...

To the tune of 3125 feet per second. ;)

Thanks for the links,

I've got some reading to do...

Both our 66's have carpet in the trunk like the interiors from the factory...that's the way they came...stuff does not slide around like the vinyl or rubber mat stuff....whe we put our Daytona together, I went with floor carpet material in the trunk....I think it looks better

just my opinion....

Bryan,

My Imperial has a carpeted trunk.

No sliding picnic baskets.

That trunk is big enough loose items could develop some serious velocity in a cross-trunk slide.

I've seriously considered putting carpet in the trunk of the Daytona.

I agree that it would look good. :scratchchin:

Just weighing my options at this point. ;)

Just a note here....if you decide to put carpet material in the trunk floor...measure & cut to fit before you put the gas filler neck in there....that tube is a pain to work around
