I am dis-assembling an Engine to get at the BLOCK.
Can I remove the HEADS without dis-assembling the Rocker Shaft and Rocker Arms??
It appears that everything will lift off the pushrods but just in case I don't see something.
Thank you in advance for answering this potential dumb question.

Sorry Guys.
It was a dumb Question.
I can't get the socket in past the rocker arms.
Thank you
John

UP-DATE
They were torqued fairly tight and it felt like I couldn't break them loose so I got the impact wrench sockets, but they wouldn't fit.
I went back to the smaller sockets and foot long pipe, and I broke them all loose (with much effort.

Now I am BACK to my ORIGINAL QUESTION???

Hard Charger

rocker shaft needs to come out.

No, the valve assembly can remain intact. Number your pushrods so that you keep them in the same order.

And to answer your next question, you will have to re-adjust your valves when you re-assemble.

I managed to take the heads off with the valves fully assembled.  I didn't number the push-rods.  My present plan is just to use the block and some brackets and non-loaded miscellaneous parts and closures.
Thank you for your inputs.

I have everything on top removed.  Now I have to figure how to turn the block over.  It appears that the legs on the Harbor Freight Cherry picker and the legs on their engine stand interfere with each other, and I can't transfer the block from the cherry picker to the engine stand.  I will try to hang it from bolts on one side and see if I can roll it to get access.

I don't know how the engine stand is made, but usually, you can set the engine on the floor, bolt the part of the stand that bolts to the engine, then lift the engine up until it is where it slides into the stand.  Unhook your cherry picker and your good to go.  Trying to bolt the engine to the stand up in the air is a pia.

Because of the legs on both stand and hoist, I can't get them close enough and whey are about 30 degrees out of alignment.  I will try what you suggest except I will try to put the engine block on concrete blocks and wood.  I will shim to get it close and hope for the best.
OR just put it on its side to complete the dis-assembly.

I have a few other questions and will start another post.
  Thank you - John
