This seasons mini-project is to install all new door & roof rail weather seals.  The originals were OK but were a little tattered.  While I was there I figured I'd do another project that I put off since I bought the car in '97....repaint the inner door frames.

The door frames had the original paint on them and being 44 years old I figured now was a good of time as ever to freshen them up.

Looking under the pass side door I found this.....daum I never really looked under there.   I figured that was tape from the body shop when I got the car painted in '98....upon closer look it was tape from the FACTORY in 1969!

My car was originally R6 red...looking at the pic you can see the paint break line from the R6 to the inner door frame X9 black...and the V2 orange that the car is now.....the masking tape has R6 on it!!   Yikes!

Check under your doors!!

Good tape too. The body shops tape should have pulled that off when the panted orange. Good stuff!

Both my cars, the doors were removed, and then painted and replaced.

Under that tape was nice & shiny gloss black. :yesnod:

Both of the doors were different too....both are original to the car but the drivers side had the black on pretty much the whole underside up to the weatherstrip while the pass side had it only halfway...much like the turban dude's pic..

I see your tape under the door and I raise you my tape under the rear bumper brackets.    :icon_smile_big:

If I'm looking at the white round thing, that's not tape, it's an anti-squeak item to keep from rubbing metal against metal. My 73 has 8 on the rear brackets.

....either Chrysler used seriously-sticky-masking tape or those were some lazy-ass assembly line workers. I vote "lazy-ass" assembly line workers. :D
