Are they the next high value "collectable" cars? Like 5.0 Mustang "Cop Cars" bringing stupid bucks in the past will the upcoming demise of this breed force pricing through the roof?
Years ago I figured I'd pickup an old mustang cop car for a beater but that never happened, they exploded in value! What do you think?  :shruggy:

Hi b5blue,            04 July 2023

Happy 4th of July all.

I have heard similar rumblings. We have an 87 Stang Cop Car with 00003.1 miles on the clock, never titled or driven on the highway. We ordered and bought it from a Ford dealer Friend in 1987. We have it on an MCO (Manufactures Certificate of Origin). Still has all the factory stickers and plastic covers on the seats. Have had some interest from a Ford dealer but no talk of Dinero $$$.

In the process of having my knees replaced; left is done, will see the surgeon on the 12th of June. Hopefully will find out when we can do the right side. Once the knees are done and rehab completed we are going to start cleaning it up and getting it running. We plan to sell it if the price is right. Dena has a 2024 Stang "Dark Horse" 6-spd manual in Race Red and will be "Race Ready" on order. Possible delivery mid August. Then it'll be the Mopar 69 SB Six Pack, 68 Hemi RR that will get cleaned up and reassembled. The 6-Pk will probably be up for sale. It has 002681 miles on the clock. Don't think it has ever been rained on.

Recently saw a beat up Crown Vic cop car cross the block for $40K. They are selling for more than when they were new.

Saw a nice CV in a parking lot. Waited for the owner to come out. Asked if he would sell it; he said: "No, you can't buy anything new that's this good.

I see quite a few of them, and Mercurys, still driving around here in Phoenix.

Who'd have ever thunk it.

You're back? How many times have you threatened to leave and never come back?

I like to piss your stupid ass off; besides, if you were intelligent it wouldn't be any fun.

We need folks like you; if you and the likes of you weren't around, who'd collect the garbage? So you see, you are useful after all. FO

What does any of your pointless, narcissistic rambling have to do with the original topic here?
Has anyone here reached out to ask you about your health or personal issues? If so, I haven't seen it anywhere.
You clearly have far greater things to deal with than your physical issues.

Attaboy, Karen. Is it OK if I point out when you go off topic with your pointless, narcissistic rambling?

BTW, the topic is "cop cars".
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Great, another confused deviant chimes in.

There have been cases where a Police department has confiscated a car from a "criminal" and then put stickers and sirens on it for display use as a "patrol" car.
I don't think that vintage Police cars are valued nearly as much as a performance car of the same era. There are some collectors of service vehicles but they are a pretty small group. I do like seeing restored Police and rescue vehicles at shows.

This Coronet was at a show in Ontario CA in 2021. I spoke at length with the owner. He was an officer with this department when these cars were still in service. He had a regular 4 door Coronet restored and took great pains to duplicate all that he could to match what he had driven back then. He was quite happy to talk about the car and I was happy to hear his stories about it.

We have 2 cop cars, both Ford's; one is an 87 Mustang with 000003.1 miles on the clock. Never on the highway, never titled (on a MCO) or licensed and our 2000 CV Police Interceptor. The latter is currently undergoing restoration. Mechanically the CV needs the A/C worked on, the front end rebuilt and a third member gear change to 2.73. When that's complete it's off to the resto body shop for paint and interior.

The work being done is to make the car better than it was when new. Right now it runs better than it did when new. It currently has 120K miles on the clock. It has been to 140 numerous times during chases. The speed and rev limiters have been removed from the software. This was done early on by a Ford mechanic per my request. It has suspension mods per Kenny Brown Performance (Kenny passed away April 19, 2022, at age 73). The car is not stock and there is no intention to make it so. We may install a full roll cage to stiffen the body and frame.

Happy Thanksgiving all.

I've had four ex-CHP cars, a '54 Olds Super 88, a '55 Buick Century, a '57 Dodge Coronet (my first Mopar) and a '60 Dodge Matador. The first three were 2-door sedans and the '60 Dodge was the first year the CHP used a 4-door.

The Buick and the Olds were stick shift. The '56 Dodge was the first CHP car to have an automatic trans.

Always thought it was strange for a cop car to be a 2-door since loading a prisoner was more difficult but it seems that the CHP called in local cops to transport prisoners.

Hi John,         17 November 2024

My first encounter with a Stang Cop Car was 1987 on a trip from Palm Springs to Texas. I was smoking along the interstate about 85 when a Stang appeared behind me with lights a flashing. Did get a ticket, he said he paced me from the access road. Went back and looked at his Stang, decided I wanted one; went home, bought one and ordered an extra.
