Electric, Gauges, & Lights / What battery do you use?
Last post by b5blue - December 13, 2024, 03:34:49 PM
My group 34 red top AGM battery was bought new April of 2016 and it may be done. The car sat for a few weeks while I patched some paint and such. Today I got the clicking weak battery sound and no crank. My charger read 12.5V with 54% charge. (Charging now.)
I'm thinking of just getting a "normal" battery? 279 plus tax is kinda steep and Amazon's return policy is not that great if I had issues later.  :scratchchin:

915s installed and running good, same as aluminum heads. So far so good but their always good for the 1st few hours miles...time will TELL
HOWEVER I understood the 440 source heads were an EXACT copy of 915s...not so. While chambers and quench is the same but the tops are not. Look at photos, on stock heads valve springs are a good 3/8-7/16 from edge of casting but the 440 source it's less than 1/4..AND a deeper rail. So latest theory is the springs, that close to the cover/gasket acted as a little "hydraulic pump" to push out the oil
Hopefully good news!
P.S. I'm starting with dry cork gaskets and go from there

I was out in this last Friday:

I am always amazed at the reactions that I get from enthusiasts. Smiles, waves, thumbs up.
When I'm out in this:

I'm the same dude but the attention is different. Younger guys and girls pay more attention, many take their phones out to take pictures. There are some older guys and even gray haired ladies that do look and smile but the shiny one gets more attention from younger people.

Quote from: Kern Dog on December 12, 2024, 02:06:39 AMHoly crap, gas is cheaper up there than in the Sacramento area.

That's a few miles from I-5. It gets much more expensive as you get closer to the interstate.

Charger Discussion / Re: 72 Charger - A few photos ...
Last post by 72Charger-SE - December 12, 2024, 08:01:20 PM
So... Here are some photos from working on the car:

First Photo:  mounted temporary oil pressure & temp gauges, confirmed as working.  Not sure we want to trust the factory gauges when firing up the engine the first time, although I do believe they work. We shall see.

Second Photo:  For those who have rewired a classic car, the amount of wires you start with could easily wrap around the car 10X.  As you can see we are down to a few wires, dimmer switch being one of them, that are not yet installed.  The door & rear wiring harnesses need to be ran & installed.  Darn close!

Third Photo:  Happy Chad (wrenching on the Charger for the first time since 2019).

Fourth Photo:  Hooked up the battery (no sparks) & turned on the headlights & dash lights.  The hi/low switch worked & the dimmer for the dash lights work as well.

UPDATE:  I am making a bonzai trip back to work on the Charger for the week of Christmas.  The goals are: completing the wiring, getting the car running & moving with the transmission & stopping with the brakes.   Once this is done, delivering it to the guy for the finish body work, paint & final assembly.

I guess but if anyone drives their cars like I drive mine, you'd still generate more heat than the paint could handle. I've seen "high temp" paint flake off of exhaust manifolds most of the time.
