Title: Guage spike and return to normal
Post by: billschroeder5842 on April 07, 2012, 02:41:54 PM
I know I seen this here somewhere and did a search and didn't find anything....

Cruising down 820 near Ft Worth today at about 65mph and looked down and saw my temp and oil pressure gauge spike in unison all the way to the right and then slowly return to normal readings. It did it once more on the way back.

Other than that, the Charge ran great for the 75 or so miles I put on it today.

Is this anything to worry about or just a gremlin of a 43 year old car?

Thanks!

Could be a ground floating, check ground strap connections.

It sounds like an over voltage problem at the gauge caused by the 5-volt relay sticking every once at a while. If it sticks for more than a few seconds the gauges will burn out. Install a solid state voltage limiter as soon as you can. http://rt-eng.com/rte/index.php/RTE_limiter (http://rt-eng.com/rte/index.php/RTE_limiter)
