Ok, unwrapped my bored and cleaned block fresh from the machine shop. walked all around it for several hours putting it all together. got to the point of setting the rocker shafts on and was staring at the oil holes that feed the rockers via the cam bearings. I dont know why it did not occure for me to check to make sure the cam bearings were in correct. But I tried to blow some air threw the oil port in the head and it seemed very difficult. so now I am all freaked out that the heads may not oil up correctly when I start it. Can I run a prelube check on this engine or will it have to be running to get enough oil pressure to come up top. I hope I dont need to rip it all apart just to look at a bearing. Please advise.
Hook up an oil pressure gauge, put the drill w/ the priming shaft in the motor & go COUNTER-CLOCKWISE while turning the crank clockwise by hand w/ the 1 1/4" nut. Rocker shaft oil holes should point down. You should get 90 psi. Dude
Just thought I would give an update. I built a pre lube tool today and oiled up the motor I ran the drill counter clockwise and it built up psi. on the guuge I put on the back of the block quickly. But I cannot seem to get oil to the rockers. I am sure the rocker shafts are installed correctly so would it be safe to assume that the cam bearings are not installed in the correct position. I was rotating the engine while doing the prelube.

Sometimes it takes a while to rotate the engine to the exact spot . you need to to this WHILE running the drill to find the sweet spot for each rocker shaft.
youre basiclly lining up a hole in the cam to another hole in the cam bearing to send the oil up there.
It would build so much pressure that it would stop my half inch drill from turning. Even as I turned it over not a drop of oil would appear in the rockers. But the second I pulled out the oil plug oil would shoot out. Hmm, I am using a 1/2 drive drill could I not be putting enough torque to it. I dont want to bust anything.
had the same problem couldnt get any oil out the rockers using the above method.
what i did was since i had a remote start disconnect the power and using the remote starter bump the engine over acouple of times and await the surprize of oil going everywhere.if you dont have a remote starter have someone try bumping it over from inside the car but u will have to reconnect the power to it..

I did have the engine rotating while the drill was running. Had the wife help me out. Should the oil pump build so much pressure it stops the drill though. It seemed like it was in a form of Hyd. lock up. I would use the starter but the engine is on a stand not installed. :scratchchin:
it will bong it down but on mine it just took alittle time to align everything..just keep trying it will come :2thumbs:
Keep rotating the crank and you will find the sweet spot....the #4 cam bearing supplies oil to the rocker arms.

Happy days, I took another crack at it today and all of a sudden I had oil spilling off the rockers like crazy. To say the least I am relieved. Thanks for all the replys and convincing me not to get to freaked out and keep trying. since its kinda in the same area, is there a certain position the oil pump drive shaft needs to be in or is it a drop in and go deal.
the slot for the distributer should be parallel to the camshaft.
I asume at top dead center then. Ok thanks for the help
