Hi to ya all :-)
I'm going to ask the always popular question "what cam??"
I'm building a 496ci fuel injected 440 stroker. I'm no engine builder and will take my time doing this build. Right now I'm buying and collecting parts.
This is going to be a pure street motor. It will probably never see the track. The car is a 68 Dodge Charger, org. a 383. 8 ¾ 3.23 SG Rear end, automatic and power brakes. I'm looking for a lot of bottom end grunt and a healthy pull up the rev range. Probably looking for max torque at 2500 RPM and peak power in the 5500 range.
I have bought a machined 440 .030 block and 500" stroker kit from 440Source (4.351" bore, 4.15" stroke, 6.76" rods, comp. hight 1.867") . The heads are edelbrock RPM aluminium. The intake will probably be a Holly SD witch will be converted for EFI. Will be running FAST EFI or a Megasquirt combination.
With this combo the compression will be in the 10.5-10.8 range depending on head gasket etc.
The high compression might be pushing it a bit and I need to be sure the cam bleeds off enough cyl. pressure to be on the safe side with premium fuel. I really want to run a hydraulic roller cam.
What cam do you think will be the best choice for my application?
firefighter recomend this cam for me, should work in yours okay too, if not the one next step down will,
the one im using = LUN-60305LK cam, .533/.552 valve lift, 242/252 duration with lifters
next step down is the 60304, .513/.532 valve lift
Thanks for the reply, I'm really looking for a hydraulic roller not flat tappet. Given the difference in cam profile I would expect a different torque curve given the same duration and lift.
Dukeboy_318 may I ask what gearing and converter your'e going for with your combo?
oh okay, duh me need to learn how to read. :brickwall: anyway,im assuming that you know you will have to change out your rocker arms and springs and i believe some other things too in order to run a roller cam. :yesnod: im sure you do, just wanted to check. Im planning on running 4.10s with a 4500 stall converter, not sure from who, but that'll be the specs anyway.
heres the link that several members have helped me put together my combo. while they will be different, it does contain some very good information and explaination.
