Title: Dukes beginning....
Post by: jaak on February 10, 2007, 10:04:01 PM
For whatever its worth, i just saw a commercial on ABC family , The Dukes begininng movie is premiering on there on March 4th. I figured some of you would like to catch it, and I'm sure it will probably be toned down for ABC family channel, have some of the crud from the DVD edited out.

Its the movie they have been filming... a prequel, its bo and luke as teenagers, Its a direct to DVD movie, since the theater version flopped. I don't think the DVD has come out yet, its probably gonna be released around the same time as the ABC Family premiere.

Oh yah, I do remember about that.  :slap:   That's cool,  :icon_smile_cool:  I just hope it's not too cheesy.  :D  But then again I don't care if it is.  :rotz:  I'll watch it anyway.    Chuck.............

Yeah, it's actually another NEW Dukes flick they're talking about.

Basically, the 2005 big-screen DOH movie didn't do well enough for a sequel with the "real" cast.  So the producers of the 2005 movie recast a bunch of no-names for the roles and made a low-budget (straight-to-DVD) teen sex comedy out of it this time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wrecked Chargers?
Good news:  Probably not as much this time.

They filmed this show using the remaining GLs left at the end of the big-screen movie last year.  (Around 10-15 intact Chargers were left, and several more cut-up ones for in-car camera work).

So far we've seen only one or two new shots of flying/wrecked Chargers for this new flick, and at least one of the jump shots looked like a digital effect.  Also, the budget for this new flick is barely $5-8 million bucks (whereas the 2005 movie was more like $55 million).  So it's probably not gonna be as heavy on the stunts this time.

I know this has been brought up before in a thread a while back.  I remember stating that I wasn't going to watch it.  But i'm pretty sure my curiosity will get the best of me and i'm gonna cave in. :icon_smile_big:

I dont think the Dukes of hazzard movie was a flop at all.

It grossed 111 Million worldwide and 80 million in the states.

The movie cost 50 million to make.

It is currently ranked #480 of all time US grossing movies.

Ahead of other movies which other might consider good or a "hit".

Some movies that it had better sales than....

Footloose
Man on fire
Backdraft
Romancing the stone
cocoon
Braveheart
BeatleJuice
mortal combat
Lethal weapon
Babe
Miami Vice
Fast and the Furious - Toyko Drift
Superman 3

Anyway considering the low cost to make and the high return, I would say the DOH is a "Hit".
And while I dont know, I would say many of the above listed movies didnt have nearly the profit to cost ratio as DOH.

Regaurdless the accountant thinks it was a hit :)

Just my 2 cents.

I will probably get eaten alive for this, but I loved the new movie, I thought it was funny, the car was bad as, the stunts rocked, Daisy was a great second to Cathrin. I saw it four times, and now own it...

I thought it was good as well. But you have to go in with an open mind. I knew it wasnt going to be the "good ole boys" but I did suspect it was going to be entertaining and have a kick ass orange car. I was right about both.

And yes its the evil, to much sex and swearing version. But as I have said in other posts....  The movie is a product of our own rating system.
PG is a box office death sentance, R is better then PG (except for kids movies) and PG-13 is just right. So in an effort to make money on the movie it "had" to have what it did in it.  Is it right? Naw I would be fine and would prefer it without. But knowbody makes a movie to lose money, and I would rather get what we had than nothing at all.

I don't mind it either, it certainly wasn't any goofier than the original.  I wonder if it will live on in movie syndication and become a future cult classic?
