Hi
My Bird has been fitted with reproduction fend scoops, and are poor quality. The outer finish is fine, but the mounting pedestals are poor, with two broken.
Does anyone know of any originals available for sale, and how much should I expect to pay?
Who supply the best reproductions?
many thanks
Gary McNeill
$1500 for a pair of really nice scoops would not surprise me. Not easy to come by.
I just ordered a pair from Dayclona. Great quality on everything I've purchased so far and a great guy to deal with.
Does Daycolna do Superbird fender scoops?
Do you have their contact details.
thanks
Gary
He makes Bird and Daytona parts. Dayclona is his username on here. PM him.
Even on the originals, the pedestals cracked. Probably what led you yours having aftermarket scoops.
I bet they're just originals.. as noted they indeed crack. Pull them off, rebuild the pedestals and put them back on. I need to repair a couple of my mounting bosses my self. We had to fix all but one on my '69 Super Bee scoops as well... :yesnod:

They are not very hard to sell.

The pedestals are not "cleanly" moulded, they are not uniformed, which makes me think they are repros.
I will take a photo.
I'll do the same on mine tomorrow... I know mine are original..
The brand name and part number are molded into the bottom side, if I remember correctly. I'll look to see if I took pics of mine while they were off for paint.
They will say "Jo Ad" (the vendor) molded in the bottom side.
If I remember correctly, there are early and late production scoops? One is taller at the opening making it look more rounded where the other was flatter like a Daytona scoop. My NOS left scoop has 3571133LH then JO-AD IND INC below the part# and then 9471 below that. My NOS right scoop is the same except part# ends in 2 and RH WINGNUT426
I have had a number of Superbird parts for a long time. My experience with folks restoring original cars is generally they are pinching their pennies pretty hard. I had a NOS set of Valance panels I sold last month,... to someone building a clone. He seems like a nice enough guy and knew what he was buying. He wanted original parts. I suggested he go to someone like Mike Goyette for a lot less money. He wanted the original parts.
A while ago I had tried to sell them to someone who was restoring an original car and really needed the parts. The original car guy didn't like the price, the cloner did, go figure?

Been in that boat too.... Restoring original cars and just come to pay the price for economic reasons... Sometimes original cars fall into the hands of people by chance, or some have had them a LONG time....... The cycle goes on...

A real car should have real parts. :Twocents:
A clone can have anything. :Twocents:
I put an original wing on my clone. The NOS center section was a nice plus. I think it's a much better piece than a fiberglass copy. I also don't think I could stand to use a fiberglass plug on an original or even a clone. I think my steel Gregory nose was much better than any beat to death original that I have come across in my search so I think it just depends. I also think what I built for headlight buckets is much better than original or aftermarket parts and I'd put them on an original bird as well. So it all boils down to budget, capability and perspective.

Funny thing is Greg, when I look at a lot of so-called restored back to "original" Daytona's and Superbirds at shows, or for sale boasting how original the car is, I either know the owner/car or shop that I supplied repro parts too/for... :nana:
I always say there's a little bit of Dayclona in almost every wingcar

What is the difference?
Mine seemed original and had same part number.
Although they certainly looked different.
Yours is the only bird I've ever seen to have that strange shaped scoop.

Hey BANNEDBIRD, It looks like you have 2 RH scoops on your car. :Twocents: WINGNUT426
Looking at the underside that says "RH" I would think there should be one that said "LH". (EDIT - Wingnut - earlier had the LH part number in post).
I was thinking it could have been a "2-up" injection mold, and was LH and RH to signify that. Would be same part number of course.
What is the Mopar part number rule: odd numbers on passenger side?
Drivers side is always left and odd Part#. Looking at your pics, the stud posts look to be the same on both your scoops. The spacing should be different side to side. Again :Twocents: WINGNUT426
Thanks for the 2-cents Wingnut. I am going to see if the drivers fender (LH) was re-drilled. My first bird had one of the fenders redrilled with different scoop hole pattern. What are the odds of that on both my 'Birds? - lol. Maybe LH scoops were not available in mid 1970's when both cars were repainted.
