Title: Is this much sun gear shell slack normal in a 727?
Post by: oldcarnut on September 03, 2016, 10:08:37 PM
While I had the valve body out messing with the parking rod that was left out in the rebuild, I noticed the sun gear shell with a lot of slack.  Is it supposed to be like this.  Zero miles on this tranny.

Is it possible that these pieces 236 and 243 were left out along with the parking rod?

.010"-.037" clearance on that assembly.  Looks like more than that to me.

Looks like a thrust washer was left out.  No way is it supposed to have that much clearance.  Has this transmission been running this way?

.  It's been driven about 20 feet  :icon_smile_dissapprove: Today I'm pulling it out again and taking to a local transmission shop to be gone through again.

Took it to a trans shop for another rebuild.  You were correct in that the thrust washer (238) inside the housing was left out in addition to the rod.  Nothing like paying twice for a rebuild  :brickwall:

if they missed that washer, you shouldn't pay anything for the reassembly job... I think !

Glad you got it sorted out.  Leaving the parking rod out was questionable move, though probably a good thing to have you looking inside for other issues.  Really this rebuilder should be refunding some money.
