Title: 68 Charger turn signal switch
Post by: VegasCharger on January 07, 2015, 03:17:58 PM
I have my eye on this eBay listing (link below) for a new turn signal switch for my 68 Charger. Anyone dealt with this particular part from this company before? The price seems reasonable but then again I don't want junk. Year One sells them for almost twice that price. I'm on a budget restore but again I do not want junk. Any suggestions would be great

Yes tried this one, don't waste your money
Wait until you can afford the correct one, or you could like I did , I had two spare old ones, I opened up the one I wouldn't mind destroying , just in case I butchered it ,
They come apart pretty easily ,
Just simple contacts, I cleaned mine up, the top signal cam was bowed over time , I clamped that and added some heat, it worked , cam stayed straight
several wires needed replacing , but if your handy with a solder iron ,
I had a new top cam to put on it but didn't need it in the end,
One tip is the originals had all the wires bonded together in a flat strip to avoid any of the inside moving parts wearing through wiring, I just super glues replaced wires back as they were,

I was to talk about Vans stuff uses to be a good option and check for that before click on the link... LOL... then opened the link and VOILA!!! it was from Vans LOL

they use to sell cheap options but not really bads. Usually some slight touch on them will make them worthly. Dunno if YR1 pieces will be way diff from this ( if not the same )

and yes... I'm agree with what fy469rtse said... sometimes they big problems are fixed with easy fixs. If not really broken sometimes a cleaning, resurface tracks, or add tension on points/contacts over tracks fix any jitter on them

I got mine from megaparts and although it feels a little tight it works great.  The old one was so loose that the weight of the turn signal lever would cut the driver's side brake light out.

Well my t/s switch is okay but it has my left brake lights not engauging. Yes my bright filaments work on that side because all of the flashers work. And do notice some faint sparks (my steering wheel is currently removed) when moving my stalk from left to right & right to left. But I will say the the cam itself engauges nicely in both directions. So I guess maybe I could tackle this one? I just learned how to solder. Also the OEM wire harness is in good shape as far as the wires being intact. Maybe a could cleaning of the wire contacts, check wire connections (solder if necessary)?  :shruggy:

. Maybe a could cleaning of the wire contacts,

that's my bid as mentioned earlier!

cleaning or get some extra pressure on contacts to be over the switch tracks. Of course will require a fully dissasembly job of switch

Yes do an inspection, as nacho said ,
taught myself about the electrical's on these cars, figured out most on my own way before I found this site,
You just need patience
Good clean up of contact points and inspection of all of the wires ? , hardest part is if the plastics are in good shape, if not you need to replace because these have the turn signal cancel ears on the cam ,

fy469rtse & Nacho Thanks

I think my cam ears are fine and like I said it does engauge with ease and is not loose at all. Here's a pic.

I would take it out if mine,
a lot of dust and crud build up , i could not believe how dirty mine was until i pulled it out and apart, mine was particularly sensitive because i swapped everything over to led's,
your this far , take the opportunity to it now,
can play havoc with things if not working correctly
