Title: distr plug pos-neg
Post by: Crazy440 on September 06, 2014, 01:56:04 PM
Which is the pos?  The male plug or the female?  Am trying to hook dist to a ClassicHEI ignition.
Thanks

just hook it up and get it started...put a timing light on it and raise the RPM, if timing retards from where it was, then reverse the two wires to the dist. Had this issue a few years ago, drove us nuts for half a day. I have a write up on this conversion, but I can't find it...it explains why timing gets reversed if connected wrong

I'm assuming you are gonna use the 4-pin HEI module, good choice, easy to come by if it fails

The male prong on the Mopar distributor connector is positive (+), female socket is negative (-).

mmmm, actually the + and - deal is quite relative, since they are just they are ends of the coil and coils are not polarized... BUT will indicate the correct position to get a correct trigger pulse.

Is just like connect a speaker to an amplifier which are not DC but AC and still labeled as + and - to get a correct phasing.

it does make a difference when using GM HEI module..if hooked up backwards, timing will retard with engine RPM rising
