Title: 727 Trans fluid capacity and type
Post by: artiec1 on August 04, 2014, 05:34:08 PM
Hey guys, I would really just like a simple answer.  71 Charger with 727 long tail. How many quarts for a filter change?

What type fluid?  Don't wan't to now anything else. No "use type-F" Dexron #3 which is not available anymore where I am.

Is Dexron 6 the way to go no?  It says it's fully backwards compatible with Dexron 3.

Thanks

stock pan etc, john Kunkel will correct me if I'm wrong,
but i think it s 7 Qrts, always best to check level at operating temp on a flat surface and top up as needed

Thanks for the reply. What I really want to know is what type fluid.  Dexron 3 is not available. Is dexron 6 ok?

Thanks

Any Dexron/Mercon will work, I prefer type F.

For just a filter change with a stock pan, 4-5 quarts is all that's needed.

I knew about Dex/Merc, each number is an upgrade, but I did not know Type Ford was an option for us.

Can I ask why you use Type F? I have a filter/fluid change coming up at the end of the month.

Type F will give slightly firmer shifts.

I have also heard of people using a 50/50 mix of Dexron and Type F.

Do different tranny fluids solute or just suspend?

I always ran type f with good results.
