looking for the largest white letter tires that would fit a 15x10 steel wheel . just kicking around idea`s.
Go to summitracing.com and use the filter tool on their tire selection. You get an assortment of brands and types real quick. Serves as a good starting point for your consideration, then you can shop all the internet for that tire.
widest or tallest? with the right backspacing, some here get 295 50 15 on their cars at stock ride height or close to it.
I agree, anything 295 will fit. I would also add running 5.5" bs. Most wheels are only avail in a 5". This is very close to the quarter wheel lip. Had I the chance to do over I would recommend the 5.5" and then shim it off the leaf springs if required. :Twocents:

5.5 would push it more to the wheel lip, you might be thinking of using 4.5.
Moparnut, I think you've got that backwards. Back space is the amount on the back side of the wheel. Bigger numbers here pull the wheel in closer to the spring. Smaller number push it out towards the fender lip. The classic '70s highjacker look was because most wheels were offered with 3.5" of backspace. The modern tire tucked into the wheel look comes from backspace number of 6",7", or more.
Would these fit under the rear of a 68 with 295/50/15 tyres ? Backspace 4.00"

no , imo need 5.5 back space , some have 5 inch back space though , best measure your car both sides factory tolerances car vary a lot from car to car ,
I thought about getting that wheel , like the look , sort of a copy of centrelines , biggest wheels & tires you can run with the American racing AR61 wheels is the 8x15 with 3.75 back space & 235 or 245 or 255 s I for get at all four corners , with that back space , 235 is the best / safest positioning on wheel / tire under the wheel well IMO think I've still got the info written down somewhere when I spent days playing with one of them wheelrite thingys :yesnod:

You're right, I did have it backwards, thanks. :brickwall:
Thanks, i've just started another thread about it, but would my current rear tyres which are 255/60/15, would they work with those wheels if I got 15 x 8, again 4.00" backspace ?

thanks guys and thanks for that pictures that is exactly the look I am going for god damn that thing is beautiful what brand tires are those I couldn't make it out also a mini tub is also a option if I find bigger white letter tires . god I love that look
also figure I should throw this in the mix I am doing an unlawful triangulated 4 link ( picture I am referring to is that black 69 with the white strip and steelies that thing is bad looking. just looking to get the most rubber to the ground that I can. I found a place that does the o.e.m. steel wheels up to 16x12 but the issue is finding a company and tire with white lettering that big. I mean I love that look
thanks for the link tan top

Most rubber? Coker makes a 445-50-15 that can fit a 12" rim. No white letters, but they could likely customize for you. Good luck making that tire fit however. 295 remains the real world limit.

Here is a pic of a 73 I had with 295/50/15 on the rear. The rear wheels were 15 x 10, I can't remember what the B/S was (I think 4.5, because it needed about another inch) It really bugged me how the rear wheels stuck out past the wheel well a little. The previous owner had just bought the wheels and tires before I bought the car (thats the reason 'Cragers' are on it :eek2:)
The front had 235/60/15 on 15 x 8 wheels.

Ew. Just say no to portruding rear wheels...
You can re-locate the leaf springs inward for just a few dollar$...

Likely you could get a graphics guy to cut some 'Goodyear' flying boot or Dunlop stencils and spray it on yellow or white, lasts a fair while...that's what this local guy did - looks pretty tough for a 318 car eh :icon_smile_big:
bob t that does look sick.
About to yellow these:
I'll be looking for a thread on that Patronus :drool5: ...since I am partial to black Chargers :icon_smile_big:
Come to think of it, haven't heard from SFRT for ages :shruggy:

I have a 73 and I LOVE that look . As for Raised Letters , IMO yellow letters are horrid .
Yellow letters originated on race tires. Unlike a street tire that has a layer of white rubber under the black surface, a race tire achieves white letters by simply painting them on. After some heat cycles and natural leaching of the oils, the white turns a gradient from white to yellow to brown the closer to the tread you go. Goodyear through they would slow the appearance change by using yellow paint instead.
You could always take the boy racer approach and get blue, red, or green tire markers and color in the letters.
295/50's here on a '68 with a 15x10 wheel with a 5" backspace. Stock ride height. Fits perfect IMHO with no rub issues.

Same, but with kyb airshocks, any bigger and there definitely would be clearance issues
what kind of tires are you guys running in the 295 series?
and 50 or 60 series? any pictures?
I was under the impression the yellow signifies the race compounds.

BFG 295/50/15 on Magnum 500 10" with 5" backspace
and 225/60/15 on 8" with 4" ( I think ) backspace . Not that impressed with the bfg road holding ability so when they wear out I will be looking at some Maxxis tyres most likely. The rears are wearing out quicker than the front :icon_smile_big:
Couple of pics here, the comparison between the stock 14" are night and day  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,95881.0.html
