I have upgraded my 69 charger to a dual field alternator, and 70 electronic voltage regulator. any danger of running the 69 wiring, which is in really good shape, by putting a 78 amp alternator on? i think my 69 one is 60 amp, and i converted it to dual field. anything i need to do to the wiring, or am i good?

thanks, craig

Yes and no, if we can say that, and mainly because the weak spot at bulkhead ( spade ternminals ) one single thread to explain it

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,33574.0.html

basically with a good alt at iddle the loads coming and going to and from batt will be decreased, because the alternator will be more in play. Usually the NORMAL loads on car barelly gets between 25-35 amps in normal conditions, and a good conditions conector will hold that, althought getting close to 40 amps becomes really risky ( for example at night with lights, wipers on and AC-heater Blower )

HOWEVER, if the batt gets accidentally discharged, partially or totally, the alt will began to suply that extra power to get it charged back, beside the regular car loads, and thats the moment where bulkhead becomes on a weak spot... then the alternator studs ( eyelet terminals and nuts ).

That's the reason why add some extra upgrades too.
