I'm searching for a 400 block ( 3698630 ) already machined, to be shipped from USA to Venezuela DONE and I intall my actual 400 internals in it. I don't trust anymore on local machine shops. They don't care anymore to make old engines, so don't pay attention on customers requirements

How much can be the machine shop job up there: acid dipp, bored 0.020, camshaft bearings in it, CORRECTLY DECKED, and MAYBE lifter bushings ( optional ) ?

also painted ( corporated blue )

Nacho-Libre, have you looked into that "block-in-a-bag" From places like Muscle Motors, etc.?

juts couple of hours ago somebody told me about Muscle Motor in Michigan... but since I'm not in USA I dunno what kind of places could get me that kind of quotes

Jamey Hancok call to the shop he usually take his motors and told me it could be around just $650 for the machine job

Nacho, just man up, and build a 383.

Nacho-RT74

if the statement for NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT is true, a 400 has more displacement LOL

Bud, I already have a stroked 400 0.020 ( 448 ) ;) so a 383 is a step back ;) ...I just want to build the same internals I have running at this time on a new block already done for it, since mine was ruined up by the local machine shops, and I'm having problems with valve train and oiling.

how much can be the internal USA shipping for a block ? I was thinking something between $120-150... right ?

A 400 ain't much bigger than a 383. Plus a 383 has a forged crank and it ain't no smog boat anchor either.  :icon_smile_big:

Free Cubic inches is free cubic inches. Plus, with the 400, you can have 500 C.I. without piston pins up in the oil rings. Go for it Nacho.

Lifter bushings run around $500 last I checked.    Everything else varies shop to shop.   Chenowith used to do a block in a bag for $1600ish ?  Not sure what happened with them.

   Hardly makes sense to build a 400 when you can do a low deck stroker.

GUYS ARE YOU READING ?

I already HAVE the stroker runing! already running 448 ( 440 FORGED crank onto a 400 0.020 bored ) I just want to CHANGE the block itself, and keep all the internals

Do you know what's wrong with your block? It should be able to be fixed unless it's broken in half.

decks are not squared, they got a slope. rear pistons are leaving the block just by a tad, and front pistons are around 0.015" below the deck. If I sent AGAIN to a local machine shop, probably sure will ruin it MORE.

Mostly sure I'll send to square it if I find a REAL profesional, but block will work for a stock build again, not anymore for a stroker

thats why I want to get a blue printed block, just to install the internals from one block to the other without DEAL AGAIN with local IDIOTS

BTW Muscle Motors quoted me $2120 shipped to Miami, for the block... that's a big NO from my wallet. True they say installing me ARP main bolts, billet rear seal retainer and blah blah blah... sorry, I can't

Nacho, did you get any breakdown on the Parts & Labor prices ?

Parts
* 400 Core Block
* ARP Main Studs
* Cam Bearings
* Frost Plug Kit
* Bronze Distributor Tower Bushing

Labor
* Remove Cam Brgs, Frost & Gallery Plugs
* Hot Tank Block
* Mag all critical areas
* Align Hone Block W/Main Studs(Machine Caps .003")
* Square Deck Block, surface Equal & Square
* Sonic Test walls
* Rough Bore(correct) Cylinders Perpendicular to Mains(from above)
* Thread Chase all Holes
* Torque Plate Hone Fit Cylinders, Jhu820's & Brushs
* Wash Block Thoroughly
* Install Cam Brgs, Frost & Gallery Plugs
* Package for Transport

Up here in Canada, I get $2000 for the above and supplying the 400 Core and parts ??, and usually I have NO TIME for "just" a block by itself....because the cores are starting to get a little tougher to come by, to "sell" a Machined Block only........ without the "Completed" Engine job.
just saying......
$2120 SHIPPED to Miami, done by professionals, REAL GUYS, for a "Block only", probably ain't that bad ?
Only wimps wear Bowties !

Nacho, how do we know it's the block and not the Difference in pistons/rods/crank throws?

Nacho, Machine work is not cheap around here if it's quality I would say your looking at minimum of $1000 for the machine work.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Nacho-RT74

yeap, I can understand that, but sorry, is not affordable for me, even less with the local situation :s

I'll have to think in something else.

Jamey ( RD ) is offering a good deal from a machine shop in Kansas, what I think will take and still need to get the money.

because when I made the first assembly to check, the pistons to deck clearence was opposite, being rear pistons deeper into the hole, then sent to machine shop for squaring, and when assemblied got that surprise.

Pistons used on every hole where the same on both assemblies because I used masking tape and sharpie to label them
